How to Do Air Freight?

I am struggling with the manual - I can't figure our how to perform an air freight mission.[:(] Please can someone post a tutorial or click-by-click instruction on how to transfer freight by air?

Sorry GeneralDad, you asked me in another thread, and I did not answer

Here are the steps from memory :

- Select the Air Transport Mode - "Unit" should appear. This is to air transport units. Useful, but it's not what you're looking for

- Click once again on the Air Transport button - now "Freight" should appear

- Left-click on a hex with an airbase on it (not necessarily one with aircraft) - this will be the staging airbase. Note that for some reason, the hex will not be highlighted. This might be confusing.

- Shift right-click on the unit you want to resupply. A screen should appear to let you choose which air units to select for the resupply mission. Select the ones you want, and press launch.

And then watch the results.


Important : it works WAAAY better when the unit you are trying to resupply is on an airbase hex.

Also important : adjacent units will be resupplied as well, so it's often better to target a hex with an airbase, even if the unit you want to resupply is next to it (but you still have to have a unit in the target hex

Note that you can't do this in the air phase, it has to be done in the ground phase. In the ground phase when the F9 (Air Transport Mode) button is available, the F9 key toggles between "AIR TRANSPORT Unit" and "AIR TRANSPORT Freight", which will be the text displayed next to the top tabs.

The easiest way is to just right-click on the unit you want to resupply while in Freight mode. The computer will automatically run a number of individual freight delivery missions depending on availability of transport aircraft and their miles flown. You can also deliver supplies to an airfield this way.

Another way to do it is to first left click on a friendly airbase, which will select that base as a staging base similar to the staging base selection for an air attack mission. Then you right click on the unit to be supplied just like above and the computer will again automatically run a number of deliveries to that unit, using the staging base you previously selected. You might use this method if you want the missions to fly through superiority boxes.

The manual method is done by Shift-right clicking on the unit to be supplied. You can also left click on a staging base first. You get the screen below after shift-right clicking on the receiving unit:



You might do this if you have a lot of units you want to resupply and instead of burning all your transports on one unit you want to give each unit a little bit of supply.

5.4.5.1 in the manual explains an overview of the process, and 26.3.29 describes the manual window from the screenshot.

Thanks for your replies. That did it an I have made my resupply missions work.[:)] The increase in combat value clearly makes this a valuable tactic.
