THEY WENT TO SHORTLANDS AND STAYED...MINUS THE KAKO WHICH SUNK IN SIGHT OF THE HARBOR!!!!!!!.This kinda of "GARAGE PROGRAMMINIG"...really pisses me off.Question?...can we expect more of this kinda nonesense in witp? This is'nt a rant,ok.If a ship is endangering of sinking put it in anchorage, does'nt sound to hard to figure it out

Sadly (or whatever), the way the system works, badly damaged ships always retire - independent of the no retire setting - to their home port.
Its not a problem for a human player, but sucks for the AI - whose homeports are almost always Rabaul/Turk/Noumea/Brisbane. It should be changed in Witp. As for now - YOU could have saved your little CA by simply making sure Shortlands was set as her homeport. Turn out you didn't - sounds like a command mistake from Fleet HQ. :p Its war - sh!t happens - live and learn and move on. ;)

yeah sadly the importance of the "make home base command" was sorely missed on me you would figure it would at least ellict a highlite in the game manual :o

Matt,

This is a very irritating traite in UV. It would be nice if it defaulted to the nearest friendly 3+ port although this would have it's own problems too.

The manual is not great on such things and I think many of us got caught out by this and some of the react to enemy or Patrol / do not retire commands early on - or when we forget :D

As Veer says though you could have got the ship back if you had put in the right commands. If it makes you feel better IJN damage control is so bad that if Kako was really badly damaged she may have sunk anyway :p ;)
