[Logged] Peacekeeper/MMIII MIRVs

Post by raten83 »

When I try to target one Minuteman III MIRVed ICBM to three targets in the Soviet Union, once the W62 MIRVed warheads deploy over Greenland, the three MIRVs will only target the original target that the ICBM picked, thus resulting in three hits to one target instead of one hit each to three targets. The same is true with the Peacekeeper ICBM with the W87 MIRVed warheads except it is ten hits to one target instead of one hit each to ten targets. It appears that the C4 and D5 SLBM MIRV warheads do the same as well. Kind of defeats the purpose of MIRVed ICBMs. I have the saved .scen and .save files, but I don't have 255 posts to upload the files.

Also, the Trident D5 SLBM (ID 2927) is only offered in the database (DB3000) with 4 W88 warheads. If an 8 W88 warhead variant could be added, that would be great. Also, if a Trident D5 SLBM could be added with 8 100 kT W76-1 warheads with a 100 m CEP like the W88 CEP, that would effectively model the refurbished W76-1 warhead that is loaded onto a lot of the US FBMs and would provide a scenario where one could test a silo killing attack using a lower yield, higher accurate warhead.

Thanks!

Known issue, fixed in the current beta and the fix will also be included in the next public release.

Can do on the W76-1. But is it physically possible to fit 8x W88s in the D5 PBV's payload space? From various diagrams that I have seen, because the W88 is much larger in dimensions, the typical load is either 4x W88s or 2-3x W88s plus "a number of" W76s (it is possible to combine them in the same PBV), or 8x W76s. If you have any shareable sources that demonstrate a >4 load of W88s we'd sure welcome them.

Thanks!

h t t p s : //csbaonline . org / uploads / documents / Assessing_Web_FINAL . pdf page 15 gives a loadout on the D5 as 8 W88 or 8 W76 RVs as limited by SORT.
The most accurate source in the world, h t t p s : //en. wikipedia . org/ wiki / UGM-133_Trident_II, gives a potential loadout of 8 W88 and 14 W76 RVs on the D5. I have read this in older documentation, but it is not easy to find on the interwebs, and I can understand if you didn't want to use Wikipedia as a source. However, it would be handy to have the 8 W88 and 14 W76 loadouts if one wanted to do a pre-SORT or even pre-START scenario.

How is the physics of this modeled? There is certainly a real-world limit as to how far apart MIRV targets can be.
The boogabooga doctrine for CMO: Any intentional human intervention needs to be able to completely and reliably over-ride anything that the AI is doing at any time.

Correct. We are currently assuming a 250x350km footprint limitation (public data from S2 test launches) for all PBVs.
