An endless op

Post by ineffable »

Combine TBF's 3 campaigns and 39 maps into one 765 day op, 11/8/42 to 8/5/44.

With 4 branches of scenario choice, two if the US wins, 2 if it loses, every scenario ever created in the Editor could theoretically be added to this op. Each new scenario would only need to be named as one of the 4 branch decisions in a previous scenario. Right now I think there is only 1 branch, whether you fight Shiba or Kasserine, based on your reputation fighting at Longstop. That's two different paths thru the campaign. Add 4 branch decisions after every scenario and the number of paths thru the op multiplies.

Then it becomes a matter of how much op time elapses while you're on each scenario. So at 13:30 on 9/26/43 I might be playing my 2000th battle of the op, in my 7th op hour fighting a Tine Valley scenario where the Germans have the high ground and beaucoup AT guns and I'm down to my last 2 M4s. If I win I'll have the option of either being surrounded by panzergrenadiers at Troina or splitting my force in half to attack separated objectives at Cerisy.

If I lose I get to chose between defending a checkerboard layout with halftracks and mg jeeps on Ganji or ambushing a German light vehicle convoy at Bou Chebka. Meanwhile, in your op its 13:45 on 9/26/43 and you're starting your 1647th battle of the op defending against a Italian beach landing at Omaha with nothing but parachute infantry, mgs and mortars.

If fought at the 1 hour minimum, the total number of possible battles a player could fight would be something like 765 days x 13 battles per day = ~10,000 battles. And since no two players would play the same set of battles, the total potential number of battles is limitless. Just one previous scenario needs to branch to it and it can branch two ways if the US wins it, and two ways if the US loses.
