Capturing Ammo Depots

Post by Behemoth »

At some point I think I heard that this is possible, is this true or did I dream this this up under a haze of wishful thinking. I'm sure I heard something about some enemy terrain feature worth capturing rather than blowing up. I've made a seach and found nothing on the topic can anyone shed some light on this, thank you in advance.

That would be a nice thing to have when ammo runs low but I've never ran completely out of ammo in any of the WWII campaign scenarios.
Always broke the other guys morale check before that happened :)

I think it would be great if you could capture them, but i think its not possible at the moment...if im wrong somebody can correct this...I have runned out of ammo couple times (mainly with tanks main gun)

Untill "objects" become an extension of flags/victory hexes system , this cool feature will not be possible..
Actually only flags can be conquered...
Owning terrains like hills and buildings belongs to flags' paradigm.
Taking control of an ammo depot could be achieved in two ways..creating a terrain which looks like an ammo depot and so again using flags..or introducing a whole new concept about vehicles..: ownership..
the second solution would be very nice ,it would give a sense to the feature of destroying abandoned vehicles for instance, but I am sure it's actually far from being possible in SPWAW .
Anyway this could be a good suggestion for the future Combat Leader ...keep this idea alive !
and open the discussion about its context..
an extension on victory hexes concept or something regarding the unit's control concept ?

As stated, there is no procedure in SPWAW to "capture" any unit (ammo dump, tank, truck, etc.). But, for design purposes, there are a couple of multihex buildings that resemble ammo depots....I usually use one of them, label it, and place VH flags on it to simulate it's capture.

I would like to see the ability to "appropriate" abandoned vehicles....after all, how did I get those captured T-34s that I bought anyhow?

But they could probably make it so that ammo dumps supplied units from both sides all the time... That way if you get to an enemy ammo dump you can use it to replenish ammo. It would be useful in, for example, the use of sig33's or something else with really low ammo but still got wheels. From a scenario standpoint it would have really helped out in one of the scenarios I'm working on where the Tiger's invariably run out of ammo, but make good progress...

And what about the chance to find 88 ammunition for the tigers in an US or Soviet ammo dump?? And even if there is some, how long would it take to find it if you have no clue about what is lying where?

I absolutely agree;and also on Flashfyre's statement of using capt.vehicles,i dont see it realistic in a SINGlE battle, too short to let people understand how a capt.tank would work, considering also you're not making a sunbath on the beach, but you're just in the mess of a fight!
On the other hand it could be a nice thing to see this feature implemented in campaigns, were you could achieve the ownership of enemy's abandoned vehicles and guns, having realistically the time to get accustomed to their handling.

A single battle would also be too short to put in radios compatable with friendly ones (IIRC Soviets used AM & Germans FM), mark as friendly (would you want to jump into an enemy tank with enemy markings and start driving it around?), etc.

As to the second point, isn't this what we can already do by buying other nation's equipment? Or did you have something different in mind?
