Feedback on ELO rankings

Post by slickandjake »

With so many resignations early in games, for the purpose of ELO rankings I am considering marking any resignation before January 1943 as a decisive victory for the victor.

I suppose I could also put other constraints, such as if the Axis hold 11 of the 14 cities for decisive victory, which must include London and Moscow, before the end of 1945 and an opponent resigns then consider it a decisive victory. Or if the Allies control at least 7 of the 10 cities needed for decisive victory and must control either Berlin or Tokyo and Chungking and the opponent resigns before the end of 1945 then also consider it a decisive victory.

Any and all feedback is welcome.

Imho every resignation should count as DV for the opponent, other results should be reported explicitly.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sugar, I think the above guidelines would incorporate almost every resignation and therefore most resignations would become decisive victories, therefore I am going to use these guidelines and re-evaluate after a while to see if any modifications are necessary. The main goal of the rankings is to give players an opportunity to look for equally matched opponents for good games. Hopefully this will help to that end.

With all of that being said, I have no results from the two who commented, helmseye and Sugar, for any PBEM games. Do either of you have some results to report so you can start a ranking?

Hi

Pardon my ignorance, but what does ELO stand for and how do I sign up?

In these home office days, I'm game

There are ELO rankings in both WaW and WiE. They are a system for scoring wins and losses that reward wins against players that are higher ranked. This is the system that is used by Chess. To play just offer to play a game here or on the WiE ELO thread

better to both agree beforehand so there is no misunderstanding. There have been cases where loser said, "Oh I didn't think we were playing an ELO game."
