Message Log - Broken Shield

Post by DWReese »

I just purchased Broken Shield, and I have noticed something different with the Message Log.

I enjoyed going to Game Options, and showing the Message Log in a separate window. I then liked to switch to the Classic View. When I click on Message Log in separate window, the whole Message Log does not switch to the Classic (Raw) View and instead vanishes completely.

What am I doing wrong? I'd like to see the Classic (RAW) View (old way) for messaging.

BTW, I checked other scenarios and it now does the same thing to them as well. As of last night, with the new upgrade, it worked perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi DWReese,

Thank you for the report.

So just to be clear you:

1) Go to game options
2) Select 'Message Log in Separate Window'
3) Switch to Classic View For Message Log
4) Message log vanishes completely

And you say this is most likely introduced with the previous patch.

We will see if we can replicate it on our end and work on a fix.

Thanks,

I installed the latest version yesterday. Everything worked fine. I was able to switch to the Classic (Raw) View.

But, after Broken Shield, when I try to do the same thing, the entire Message Log completely vanishes. THERE IS NO OPTION TO SWITCH TO CLASSIC (RAW) VIEW. You don't ever make it that far. As soon as you hit those buttons, the whole box vanishes. Whether I use Game Options and check the box (second button down) to bring up a Separate Window; or hit Ctl+Shift+M; or use the Pull Down Menu in View, the screen always vanishes. By doing the reverse, the screen will reappear, but the it does not have the Classic (Raw) View.

Perhaps that has been discontinued. I hope not, because I like that better.

I still have it working on my end, so unable to replicate. Moreover, we did not release a patch today, so nothing changed in the code since earlier.

Are you using the Steam or Matrix version?

I used Matrix for both the update of the game, and to obtain Broken.

When I last played CMO, which was another scenario this morning, (before Broken arrived), I had last used the Raw View. It worked fine.

My Command.exe is dated Feb 11, 2020.

I located the Command.ini file. I believe that it was mentioned that the file regenerates itself each time the game is started. Would it behoove me to save that under another name, and delete the ini file to see if that brings things back to normal? I don't see anywhere in the ini file about running in RAW Message mode, however.

I just ran Broken Shield on the latest update and have been trying to break that button and log window use. Works across the board in Win10.

Okay, let's try this, the game is playing like normal. The Message box is visible. How do I switch to the Raw view of these messages? What method do I use. I don't see anyway to switch it.

It works now.

Before, when you attempted to open the Massage in a separate box, the entire box would vanish.

So, I deleted the Command.ini file, and then restarted the game as I had previously proposed. The ini file regenerates itself, and this time the screen was able to display the switch button.

So, something must have been left over (possibly because I had last played the game (before Broken was installed) in the Raw Message mode. I don't know what caused it, but it now works.

If anyone else experiences this issue, it can apparently be fixed by deleting the ini and restarting the game.

The log window position [MessageLogWindow] wasn't recorded in the INI, but the log window option [MessageLogInWindow] was true. So it was crashing on trying to position the detached log window.

Thank you.

I knew that it was something simple to fix it. I just didn't know what it was. <lol>

Thanks for producing such a great game.

I noticed the same behavior while running a different scenario.
I tried to attach a movie which shows the behavior but it is too big.)

I was able to work around it by going to the game options and hitting the
Reset positions of secondary windows button.
