Two more puzzles about naval combat

Post by mdsmall »

Hi - two more things about naval combat that puzzled me in my recent game.

1) I found that on some turns my German maritime bomber could spot ocean hexes out into in the North Sea, but on other turns it could not and seemed only able to spot coastal hexes. Any idea why that would be? The unit had taken casualties from French fighters at one point but there was no change to its supply status.

2) On two successive turns with Fog of War on and watching the AI play my opponent, one of my naval units (I think it was a destroyer) fired automatically at an empty sea hex during the enemy movement. I assumed that an enemy naval unit had a surprise contact with mine and there was a round of automatic combat. But what I surprised me was that the enemy unit was never revealed to me. Whenever my naval units had a surprise contact with the enemy, I could see immediately what I had bumped into. How is it possible with the game mechanics to have combat with a unit you never see?

1) Could it have possibly been weather related? Bad weather limiting the flight and possible spotting range?

2) Sounds like a bug, if you ever have it repeat again, a saved turn from before you hit end turn where I could see it repeat would be very helpful for me to track it down. I realize it is hard to have the turn saved right before a bug, but if by any chance you ever do, please let me know and send it to support@furysoftware.com.

Thanks!

Hubert,

On the first, weather is a possibility. I will look back at my saved turns to see if that explains it.

On the second, I thought it might be bug. I was saving most turns so I will see if I can recreate it for you.

Cheers,

Michael
