How'd you define best? :D

I think Siwa is probably a good starting planet for people but even then you can get some very tough starts depending on how you play. Pretty sure DasTactic has talked about good planet starts in his tutorial series he just posted.

Siwa is the most recognizable... No food/water worries, but can be very dense with lots of forests/jungle/mountains. Since it covers the basics well it is a good starting planet. But if you want to blitzkrieg a desert world might be better, more open terrain etc... I'd say, try them all out! :)

I've been playing my first game on a small Siwa class planet, and although there's plenty of food, the metals are sorely lacking. Maybe due to the planet's age though, I've not been paying attention to it until now, so it well may be that not all Siwa class planets have this lack of metal.

The amount of metal is affected by the planets age: the younger the better I think.

That's good to know, thanks.
I checked and that particular planet is 4 billion years old.

I think for my next game I'll try a Medusa planet, just to see what kind of wacky random generated lifeforms one can encounter there.

Be careful what you wish for! :)
