Yes. Also, you can re-assign units to OHQs (like GR grade infantry you find). Which is something I only learned yesterday. You want units to be assigned to the nearest HQ, because they presumably get bonuses. This is the info button:

It's called HQ Power and it has its own value to the left of supply in the currently selected unit window.

Per the manual, for units to receive effects of skill bonuses, the unit must be in range of its OHQ. At 100%, a good skill roll always works. It decreases to 0%, where skill rolls never work. The owning SHQ is always in range for the high command skill roll.

The OHQ commander performs those skill rolls during combat. Operational command is always rolled. Depending on other factors, it also includes offensive tactics, defensive tactics, and other options like Tanks, Guns and infantry tactics.

You can have more than one OHQ commander in an engagement, if you mix your formations in an offensive or mix them in a hex during a defensive fight.

Look for morale and experience benefits as well.

Militia units can only be attached to SHQ, right? Which means they have to operate close to SHQ or they suffer big command-range penalties, right?

I used the post as the basis for a full guide--

zgrssd contributed some details about the militia. I tend not to think about them, since they become OBE very early in the game.

Has anybody determined the precise range of an OHQ yet? And particularly if it depends on terrain types or not? I've been failing to pay enough attention to tell myself.

At any rate, your contributions to the War Room are much appreciated, Malevolence and zgrssd.
I would love one on logic gates shenanigans using roads and traffic signs, but that would probably scare the heck out of people. [:D]

Afaik:
- The SHQ's high command skill has unlimited range.
- OHQ skills do have a limited range, wich is even displayed on the unit (that property that looks like a Order of battle Diagramm)
- Militia units that are within OHQ range of the SHQ, can also benefit from OHQ Skills of the SHQ commander.
