Merging units

Post by d0mbo »

I have three independent battalions (same type) that i want to merge into a single new regiment.
Is this possible? Right now i can transfer troops until the sub units reach a strenth of three points, so no go there.

Anyone knows?

You can create a Battlegroup by co-locating the units in the same hex; use the Transfer/BG command at the bottom of the Orders Bar.

Battlegroups do not have the advantages of formations created from operationalized OOB's.

For more details about formations and adding auxiliary units to formations, please see the Discover the Formation Type Overview post.

See Manual Section 3.8.1.10, "Transfer/Battlegroup" as well.

Interesting; you may want to report that in Tech Support.

Battlegroups are not covered in detail in the manual.

Unit feats are tied to their formation and can't be transferred. Battlegroups do have the ability to gain them the usual way.

You can increase a formation's scale through Unit Admin in the right-side panel -> Upgrade. You can then transfer spare troops from the other formations to the upgraded one. But like you mentioned, you can't transfer the last three subunits out of a formation (though I think GR formations are an exception to this), so if you wanted to get rid of the other battalions you'd have to disband them and let the SHQ deliver the remaining troops to the regiment.

I think you can sometimes transfer the last three subunits as long as you transfer all the subunits at once. I know I have "merged" units that way before but it might always have been with SHQs and/or Battlegroups as the source.

I do find it odd that you don't seem to be able to leave a SHQ with exactly one or two subunits but of course zero is fine...
