Recon aircraft

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Recon aircraft

Some recon aircraft have a max load above zero. How do those aircraft use it?

Also, I'm playing a campaign and when it starts four German Strat Recon groups (Do-17P-1) are set to night ops. Why, when you cannot do recon at night and they therefore remain unused. Am I missing something?

For the latter, it's an oversight. Probably just for flavor and historical accuracy but then wasn't removed after the mechanic was never implemented/doesn't work?

They were not recon on v1.01 - a later patch changed them to recon without changing their at start night setting. You can always change them to day missions settings. Until the patch which meant this change had to be at 0% miles and took you to 100% miles this was trivial. It is only putting the patches since with the original scenario data that this seems weird. But just means you need to leave them unused to change their day/night settings.

The Do 17P were used for specialized night recon, too slow and vulnerable for day ops.

Should WitE then not allow them to fly recon missions at night? At the moment it will only allow us to fly recon in day missions?

Perhaps this would allow for less interception, but less powerful detection?

I have to admit I didn't know they were any night recon missions possible in ww2 given the tech for the time.

They used flash bombs to illuminate a target for a small time, sufficient for some photos.
