Alien creatures of the skies

Some planets have alien creatures of various sizes. It would be interesting if there were hostile birds that could if big enough or even the size of gulls that fly in large swarms could cause planes to crash. Large birds of prey might attack planes on landing or take off and slower aircraft, helicopters could be at risk too. Think large creatures like in Avatar movie.

Rather than they show up on the map- perhaps based on what they are, size and type of planet of course, it could be a random event that might happen to an aircraft on a sortie.

Also it could be certain types of terrain that it could occur, if the planet info about these creatures could detail that, eg. breed on mountain ranges. Live in the high canopy of forests, feed around lakes etc. This would just be for variety and world-building purposes.
Would be neat if there was a Science division that researches the planet life etc and you learn stuff through them like that as well as other things about the planet for immersion- but i guess that is separate idea.

Getting back on track. You sent a transport plane and based on type of planet and chance something could happen if there is alien birds of prey- could be a small percentage the plane is lost or damaged. Maybe damaged planes cannot fly if damaged to a certain point and takes a turn or so to be repaired.

I am suggesting this for immersion and variety, random game events that could happen add to narrative play.

Maybe they could be alien fauna that automatically intercept any planes performing missions near them.

Bird strikes. I say bird strikes. Maybe the max OpRange could be reduced until the pteranraptors are exterminated?
