10/43 and I ran out of ideas / moves...

Post by Hornblower »

Any one else have this experience? I'm Allies, snr 17, against the AI- set historic. Its 10/43 and I've taken everything south of truk except Kaveing. Japan has no CV's on board, or the AI isn't realising them.. In my opinion there was no way to take truk, nor really a need. So, I based my b-24's at rabaul to bomb truk, but i need fighter escort. I used APD's and DD's to fast transport some Seabee's, a marine def battalion, and 2 base units with radar to Pohnpei island- that little red dot to the right of truk. I built up the airfield rather quickly- to my surprise- to level 2, then moved in 2 P-38 squadrons, VMF 213 and 2 groups of SBD's. I set the P-38's as escort to truk (yes they can reach) and the F4U's as cap. At this point the AI decided that they didn't like me being on this island. It launched daily raids of @ 25-45 fighters, and similar number of bombers. In two months VMF 213 racked up 254 kills. Yes, I am telling the truth. The raids gradually diminished till the AI just gave up. I was getting very high kill ratios, and if i lost 1 F4U a week (in air to air) it was allot. And the escorted B-24's set at port attack at 20k pretty much emptied Truk of Naval units. Any one else have this experience?

I'd say it was time to start a new game. Maybe try a harder difficulty setting this time or play from the Japanese side.

PBEM is the answer.

In my current PBEM game I am lucky to receive two turns a week. I must admit it has gotten better recently but for the entire summer that was the average.
