Turn 1

#97 Final Position before all of the Administrative and all other moves of units to the north and east of Stalingrad. I am not going to go through all of their moves since these 99ish moves is all you need to get Stalingrad surrounded. The panzers to the SW and to the SE will still be locked in place. The PZ division to the west along with the Rumanian Panzer should not be able to break through. Also the one regiment from the SE pocket doesn't have the punch to get through the outer defense. Thus only the inner German units can make it out and will have to cross either a major or minor river once or twice in some instances. I found this the best setup out of a day working out an opening. I hope this helps others that may be looking at this scenario and will now get back to the game which is going into turn 3 now.

Turn 1

#3 This HQ! Much better leader for what I need. (Yes, I know about the malus)

That malus being?

15.5.6. Leader Rating and command
re-organisation
If a unit shifts to a new HQ then that HQ’s leader will
have at least a -1 malus on their leadership value for any
administrative rolls during that turn. If the new command
also reports to a different higher command then an
additional -1 malus will be applied to the corps/army
commander’s administrative vale.
For example, a German infantry unit moves from one
corps to another in the same army. The new Corps leader
has -1 on their administrative score. If that new corps
reported to both a different army and a different army
group, the net malus will be -3 on the administrative value
of the Corps leader. If it also changed from say OKH to the
Rumanian Supreme HQ, then the malus becomes -4.

What is unclear to me about this rule is:
1) Does this apply to the logistics phase in the next turn when MP, replacements, fatigue reduction, and supply occurs? Or does it just apply on the turn the change is made; i.e. before the next turn's logistics phase.
2) If this only applies to the current turn and not the next logistics phase, then the only thing it could effect is combat, yet nowhere do I see that combat is affected by the admin score.

well the key words are 'during that turn' so it applies from the point the change is made till the next player turn opens?

You are welcome. Make sure to set up some Air Superiority over the airfield in the Stalingrad Pocket. I set individual directives for each airfield & more squadrons over the bigger fields instead of one big blanket Air superiority mission. Let me know how it turns out. Please note the SU allocation the 2nd Guards creation, 1st on the north side I gave 3 tank regiments high ToE, anything less and you may get a higher delay when attacking the 2=4 Rumanian division.

You are welcome. Was more work than I thought it would be. But glad this is helping people. The two regiments of 16th Motorized now will probably always get fully surrounded now that I showed how to ;-)

I have always tried to isolate those regiments in my test games (RAR scenario). I have not put as many resources into it, however. Not sure you needed as many either. A screen to the east seems like it can be fairly loose while the west, north and east sides get all the attention.

From my tests the minimum amount of mp's those German regiments got when not fully surrounded was 38+. If you loosely surround them they will have 42+ and even 50 MP's from many testing and reloads during practice. So I decided to fully surround and make them fight their way out. Which is what I did. Plus this pretty much takes those two German regiments out of the fight for helping to free Stalingrad when fully surrounded. But if you have a better method this I am all ears since I didn't want them breaking in from the outside on the German 1st turn :)

You didn't really cover the rest of the front. I see from Q-Ball's report, however, that you strengthened the western side of the Velikiye Luki salient and captured Velikiye Luki itself. I assume you are going to call off operation Mars?

OH! I am not done with the 1st turn yet. I have been a bit busy and haven't fully updated this AAR or my one other AAR. Sorry I didn't mention that. Should have some more updates on turn 1 later this afternoon, hopefully.

Turn 1

Leningrad

Leningrad is a special kind of stupid. I send over a bunch of brigades to be made into divisions and into Corps if I have to defend Leningrad against an onslaught by the Germans. (Try and get something over there a different way, I dare you) You can see in the photo I sent 15 brigades. 2 of them will withdraw soon and will be used accordingly. The rest will be converted. I also re-arrange my forces in Leningrad moving the Corps back to the open terrain next to Leningrad and adjusted the front units around.

I start clearing out some units in the Volkhov Front sending on trains to the South. More than enough divisions to hold here and "fresh" troops are needed elsewhere.
