Looks like Nachi should sink overnight, and Myoko and Kamikaze are badly enough damaged to not clear beyond strike range tomorrow. Much drama for the peanut gallery!

The Jap SCFT was not on my orders screen when I processed the last turn.

LESS yammering and more turns PLEASE!

Cannot write as the action is still far from complete.

Will say that I absolutely DREAD January 1, 1943. Have taken solid steps for ASW but just simply know that they will not be enough...

I had three crippled ships is EASY strike range and not one single Allied Vindicator flew. They were SCARY EFFECTIVE the previous turn! Running away or is that LIMPING away presently.

Two Japanese Carrier TFs merge the morning of New Year's Eve. The embarrassment of the CA Attacks two days ago hangs over the Fighter Crews. Orders got mixed up and the CAP ZEROs did not fly. Their two long-time escorts were pummeled and the Zero-Sen pilots are shamed at what occurred.

Vc-Adm Yamaguchi Tamon commands this force. He meets with his Sea Eagles and they decide to formulate a plan to deal with the threat that comes from Tahiti. The Task Force will close the target and DRAW an attack from the AF upon itself. The pilots will have to be successful and shoot down every bomber or the tender flight decks will be vulnerable. The pilots grin and accept the challenge.

The CTF turns SSE and closes Tahiti.

Orders are clear--CAP 80% -- Rest 20% Range 0. All DB and TB get ordered to rest for the day.

Morning dawns with high clouds and some storms. No Allied Attack occurs.

Afternoon begins and the primitive radar sets of the Fleet pick-up the enemy closing. There is plenty of warning. The carriers turns into the wind to double the CAP. The Allied Strike is strong comprising 60 Fighters and 17 Vindicator DB. It is met with ZEROs at 18,000 Ft -- 13,000 Ft -- Float Planes (RUFE and the new REX) at 5,000 Ft. Against the 77 plane Allied Strike, the Carriers put up 121 total Fighters.

The Allies are slaughtered. Half of the Fighters are shot down and ALL of the Vindicators. Losses are light and the pilots return to their carriers knowing that honor has been served.

The Japanese CTFs begin to move off but not before a double sweep by Akagi and Amagi's ZEROs. Tahiti puts up a very respectable 73 Fighters flying at about 67,000+ Ft. The Japanese lose 9 Zeros for 7 Enemy. Not acceptable.

Order the Fleet to return to its forward bases.

January 2, 1943
China

This has been a very quiet sector for some time. I welcomed this so troops could redeploy. The apparent quiet of Mengtze is broken this day by 119 Japanese bombers plus fighters hitting the town's garrison of three units.

From the south, along the trail, a short afternoon bombardment by two Japanese Infantry Division's artillery awaken the Chinese to their true danger. A Deliberate Attack nets a 5-1 vs Forts-3 and the Chinese are driven from the base. Japan loses 357 Casualties for 1540 Chinese and 5 Guns.

A new vector opens in the China War.

From the North, the Japanese 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions, plus three TK Reg, destroyed a Chinese Corps and now they move southwards to tackle a second lone Corps. From there, the drive southwards shall gain strength, steam and speed.

The mobile, large portion of China's Army sits bogged down in Burma. They are nowhere near to help...

43/1/3: I have noticed in Babes that surface and cv tfs no longer can move range 18 at full speed. seems they can move 9 regular and then +4 if full speed is activated, for a maxfull speed range of 13.

I would guess they may go 18 if reaction range 6 is activated.

I noticed my CV tf did move a full move this turn, they may be slow because sometimes I have transport tfs following a cv tf.

Yes, Way To Fly but in this case it may have been Way To Fuel - at least for the escorts!

Thanks for the comments. The implication of Ranger Joe comment is the transports are sucking fuel from the CVTFs if "set to follow?"
