Clarification on Activation of Soviet Southern Front

Post by PeteJC »

In the manual it states that the Southern Front will be activated if teh Germans take a Russian hex south OR east of the activation hex on the map. Not to nitpick but it seems that it should read that teh Southern Front gets activated if teh Germans take a hex southeast of the map activation hex.

For example, I ran a test game as teh AI playing as Germans and human for Soviets. The Germans took hexes south of the activation hex (i.e. Sambor) and east (i.e. Tarnopol) and teh Southern front was not activated.

Safe to assume it will not be activated as long as any southeast hexes are not taken?

Yes, draw a line south and east of that hex and any point taken in that southeast quadrant causes the early activation of the Southern Front.

All it takes is an axis zone of control across the line.

Thanks for replies. Figured my assumption was correct but just wanted to make sure.

The manual should say hex "southeast" or "south AND east" not south OR east. Again don't mean to nitpick but it is an important distinction. Now the next and more important question I guess is should you attack far enough to activate anyway?....

This is in 2 places in the manual. In one place it says south OR east (wrong!!!) and in the other it says south AND east (correct). Not sure why this has not been corrected.
