[FIXED] Ignore plotted course issue with latest dot three five beta

Post by MikeG1 »

Hi

When playing with this beta I've noticed that airborne ASW platforms don't appear to be searching for submarines correctly, possibly this is related to the noted 'ignore plotted course fix'. I noticed this playing 'Hells Highway' and replicated it in a test scenario.

The behavior is
-Aircraft on either ASW patrol mission or manual F1 engage enters 'engaged offensive' and approaches target , 'ignore plotted course' set to yes
-I'm not 100% sure on this but if contact is maintained with the submarine all seems to be well. I can't reproduce this reliably.
-If contact is lost, rather than entering a search pattern 'ignore plotted course' (IPC) sets to no and the aircraft continues on its patrol; ignoring the target. IPC stays set to no.
-Manually switching ignore course back to yes, gets it to turn around, make a pass and then 'IPC' sets back to no again.

In the test scenario based on one of the tutorials (see uploaded zip)
-The helicopter is engaging the diving submarine on an ASW patrol mission
-As it approaches 'IPC' sets to no and it ignores the target
-Setting IPC to yes gets it to turn around, but then IPC sets back to no and it ignores the target again
-Removing from the mission and trying manual engage results in the same behavior.

While the helicopter is searching for the sub, the IPC will change to 'No' (should be reported in the message log) as it tries to localize the contact.

I agree with the OP, the behavior is very different in this patch. It seems now that there is a tendency to fly in a straight line when IPC = No and no manual course is plotted.
The boogabooga doctrine for CMO: Any intentional human intervention needs to be able to completely and reliably over-ride anything that the AI is doing at any time.

Fix seems to have worked on the Red Tide save I was using to test, thanks for the prompt response
