Turn 17 - Replacement Pool

Screenshot shows the Production Screen. On the right-hand side, the levels of supplies, ammo, fuel and vehicles in units are all below need, with shortage more severe for supplies and fuel (see red box).

On the left-hand side, comparing those negative figures enclosed in green, and figures of aircrafts in pool (enclosed in white), the situation of German aircrafts’ replacement pool can be said to be very satisfactory. Only two out of production aircraft models did not have sufficient replacement (Bf109E-7 and Ju88D-2, underlined in red).

Use of Panzer/Armored Units in Attack

I started this scenario saying that I want to adopt an approach of using panzer/armored units mainly in maneuvering, and avoiding direct combat. If attack by panzer units is really needed, I planned to confine the attack on small and weak enemies (eg. security regiments, airborne brigades). The purpose is to preserve the number of AFVs, and in turn the strength of panzer/armored units.

Of the Scenario’s 17 turns, panzer/armored units did not make any attack in 9 turns. In the remaining 8 turns, a total of 14 attacks involved panzer/armored units. They were broken down below –

(a) 11 were attacks on small/weak enemies. AFV losses were minimal;
(b) 1 was an error where a panzer regiment was unintentionally included in a deliberate attack initiated by a co-located motorized regiment. Luckily there was no AFV loss;
(c) only 2 battles were intentional deviation from the adopted approach. One was an attack by a panzer regiment together with a motorized division in Turn 6, losing 9 AFVs (or some 10% of AFVs joining the battle). The other was an attack by 2 panzer divisions and a motorized division in Turn 16, with only minimal AFV losses. None of the enemies attacked were armored/mechanized divisions.

In conclusion, I think I largely adhered to my adopted approach in the use of panzer/armored units. As a result, I kept my AFV losses (including wear and tear losses) very low – 198 for the whole scenario.

The End

This is the end of the AAR. Thank you for your reading.

I found this scenario really enjoyable, in particular the experience of having panzers/motorized units roaming around and pocketing enemies.

Lastly, I put the set of counters used in this AAR below, just in case someone is interested. I claim no credit as all the ideas are from other people. I just selected those I like and implemented them to form my counters. (HQ mod from vilcum/Kel, naval inf from Hardradi, airborne and fort from a mod used in WitE1 (I must apologize as I forgot the source)).

Well done, that is nicely written and well delivered. Agree with your interpretation of how to use the Pzrs and it clearly paid off for you
