Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Turn 38
Well going through my screen shots it looks like I completely missed saving any of them but from memory things continued to pick except in the South the Russians smashed through 6th Armee positions.
Its always 6th Armee this happens, my last 2 games as come to the end of the first winter the Russians hit them and breakthrough.

AG North Turn 39
I have launched a few attacks to push the Russians back in preparation for 18th Armee to take over 4th Pz Armee positions.
Quiet on 16th Armee's front.

In the centre I am able to contain the Orel breakout, also 9th and 3rd Pz Armee's launch a series of attacks forcing back the Soviets.

Ag South Turn 39
The attack on the 6th Armee sector intensifies as the Russians push troops trough the gap.
Pressure on 17th and 1st Pz Armee's has eased somewhat as the AI focuses on attacking 6th Armee.

The Russians take some big losses and Wehrmacht confidence is running high.

Both sides pay price for these heavy attacks, still its a 2 to 1 ratio.

Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Do you replace default leaders? As you have a lot of AP. I think that at that time, March `41 i had much less AP. But I did build a bunch of FZ.
Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Yes normally I would do it before the end of 1941 but i decided on a different approach to this game and chose to use a lot of AP to repair Rail head depots.Stamb wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 10:08 am Do you replace default leaders? leaders changed so far
Erich Marcks - II Korps
Walther Von Seydiltz-Kurcbach - XXXXII Korps
Walther Nehring - 4th Pz Armee
Erich Von Manstein - Army Group North
Heinz Guderian - OKH
There will be more changes coming soon.
You may be thinking who the hell are the two Korps Commanders, while they are quite good quality leaders they have interesting histories.
cheers
Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Can you explain why do you move Manstein and especially Guderian to OKH? OKH will receive only a little bit of all of the failed checks and has /80 chance to pass it
Corps /10. Army /20. AG/40. OKH /80, if i am not mistaken.
I try to use best leaders on a corps lvl and only then on an army lvl, while ignoring AG and OKH completely.

Screen from a manual:
Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Overall there is always not enough AP for an Axis in `41. Leaders, FZ, depots. Sometimes some leaders might be replaced automatically...
But you are doing very well. Even after first winter red army is still < 4mil. I think you will have great success in the summer

Re: Drive To The Caucasus - A 41 Campaign
Ok well firstly while I know about the leadership checks and its importance to have high quality commanders, I have seen table you have posted, but I breezed over it when going through the manual.Stamb wrote: Sat Mar 12, 2022 11:23 pm Can you explain why do you move Manstein and especially Guderian to OKH? The other reason I put both guys in high places was they are Pz Commanders, I got it into my head that there skills in armoured fighting would flow down through the chain of command.
looking at the table in more detail I see now that I am probably wasting them there,I have noticed in prior games that my troops were not getting supplied better with a lot of penalties in leadership skills.
Another more personal reason changing certain commanders was from a moral base , lets just say Keitel or Jodl will never be in my games.
This is why I play PVE only, still way to much to learn looks like I am looking at the Command structure from the wrong end first.
Any suggestions as a good OKH and Army Group commander, I guess I could put Halder back at OKH,
cheers

AG North Turn 40
The Finns begin to arrive and I have started moving 18th Armee into positions where by I can pull 4th Pz out.
Also launched more front wide attacks against the Russians routing quite a few units.
The first reports of Guards units have now come in, these of course will be priority targets in the coming months.

AG Centre Turn 40
More general attacks on the central front pushing back Russian forces 4th Armee and 2nd Pz Armee are containing the Orel breakout and are in a position to trap some units.
Further south of Orel is still worrying as the Russian breakthrough there moves further behind my lines, for safety reasons a number of Armee / Korps HQ's were moved to a safer area while our forces try to seal the hole in the line.

large scale attacks against Russian positions also pushes there troops back, trying to clear them so that I can have some space and our troops are not in contact with the enemy and causing fatigue.
Morale is high now among the troops they feel they have weathered the storm and will soon be ready to counter strike.

Our supply situation is now really good with only a few individual Armee's low.
Even the Axis Allied Armies are doing pretty good.

The Red Army took a beating this week with nearly 600 AFV's destroyed.
The Russian losses are at almost 6 million.

Air losses Turn 40
Well there had to be price to pay for enemy's ground losses and it cost me just over 300 planes including over 200 bombers.
The Russians lost double my losses.
