Black Sea Amphibious HQ

Post by OctopusEV »

Hi,

I was so nervous, when this Black Sea Amphibious HQ was always present at "my" coastline off Batumi.
Does anyone know the purpose for it to remain at this position, when all the Black Sea coast is in the hands of the Axis?

I took all the Black Sea coastline from the Russians somewhen in summer 1942. Thus, the basis for any Russian sea warfare except with long-range air planes cheesed. Where the subs would refuel and load new torpedoes? Where is the surface fleet maintained? Do they go in and out through the Bosporus to use the British arsenals? Still months later, occasionally my transport ships were sunk. It got less over time. Fine.

But, this Black Sea Amphibious HQ was always present at Batumi until I finaly won in April 43. I wasn’t aware, if it would deploy landing troops somewhere. It had a strength of 2,1!

If it had no meaning, why not deleting it? I couldn't make use of the port of Batumi this way.

Thanks in advance!

If you set some Naval Interdiction on top of it, it will eventually sink.

A related question on the Amphibious HQ. Is there a way to move the HQ from Stevastopol at the start? The city will obviously fall so want to mitigate TOE/resource loss

yes, with naval transport type of movement
but you can use it to help your ground forces to fight
i do not remember exact rules but if it is close, maybe 1 hex or so, to a coast line it will help with it guns

Thanks K62. I thought of doing this, yes, but from my point of view, it was applying treatment to a problem, which shouldn't exist.

I did follow your suggestion within a saved game, for us to find out. I cleared the hex on D1 with ground attack or Naval patrol. Icon disapeared while watching. After Air doctrin were gone through, it appeared againg with similar strength.

Is this HQ onboard a ship, which is always at the same location for several months? Shouldn't then my Navy take care of it without being asked?

I can't check at the moment, but does the Black Sea counter actually have guns in its element mix? If not then the only impact is if its adjacent to an enemy unit then it stops that unit using reserve reaction

if it has guns then being adjacent to the units in combat will trigger its intervention, either the defender or the attacker will do

it has guns

I learned it from a game vs Lovenought when he was using this HQ. I never saw it before in any of the AARs.
I was very surprised. It is not game changing but better than nothing.
