RE: TGW 1941-1945
Will the fix be included in a future patch?

No idea.. but why wait? you have it now [:)]ORIGINAL: bru888

True, and done. I'm just wondering whether to keep this download file itself which will not be necessary if they include it in a patch. I imagine they will.

I have to choose my words carefully here ... let's see ... hmmm ... Got it! 'It would only make sense to do so, therefore I would suspect that it will, however I am not an employee of Matrix and therefore I cannot answer for them'. [;)]ORIGINAL: bru888

RE: TGW 1941-1945
My dad and I used to play GDW's boardgame Drang Nach Osten/Unentschieden in the 70s. Looking at all the East Front scenarios TGW seems to be the same scale/most similar - with all the added depth and automated bookkeeping that a computer brings. I actually counted map hexes between cities on both maps and they are the same distances.
Am I seeing coincidence or intention? TGW is the computer version of GDW's Drang Nach Osten/Unentschieden?
FYI - we often would sit on the phone - each with a copy of McBride's DNO open discussing it and "insane" was the word he used most.
(sorry, Larry, this was meant for sPzAbt653)

If you're STILL making Panzer IIs after seeing your first T-34... you're probably going to lose.
Re: TGW 1941-1945
Dear Great Author of TGW, I wonder if there exists a detailed scenario description txt or scenario design txt that explains the mechanics in detail.
Any designer's note will be very helpful!

Re: TGW 1941-1945
Because the Soviet's main formation is Corps for this scenario I ended up creating a pivot table for each formation so I could move them between armies and have a sense of where everything is, and, of course, I recolored them as I do not like looking at gray versus red counters.
Please, Larry and Steve, any commentary or insight on this scenario would be appreciated. I'm approaching it as RGW/D21 lite.

Re: TGW 1941-1945
If I remember correctly, Larry and I both had the same idea of taking the Barbarossa '41 scenario and expanding it out to 1945. The idea was to have the same scope, but at an easier to manage scale. It ended up using a different map and the OOB from FitE/D21, modified to fit the new scale.
Re: TGW 1941-1945
I have started a few times and each time it is a lot of watching Soviet divisions become regiments and the requisite reuniting housekeeping that becomes. So, I let Elmer play Elmer for 18 turns and I call it The Great Popcorn Explosion.
Would it be difficult/change play too much to set TGW like the Russo-German War where Soviet divisions do not divide?

Re: TGW 1941-1945
Also, I got around to re-coloring the axis minors - themed on uniforms.
Romania - uniform color/helmet color
Hungary - helmet color/uniform color
Italy - Summer uniform tunic (sun-bleached)/shirt
Slovakia - uniform color - that odd blue strip color
What's with that fat blue stripe around the helmet, Slovakia?

Re: TGW 1941-1945
thanks for the report. What is the main difference between TGW and D21 scenario? I think D21 solved the problem you mentioned by assigning some of the initial soviet division as platoons so they cannot divide further even though they have division level components.
Is there Axis PO too for TGW?
Is there Axis PO too for TGW?
Re: TGW 1941-1945
I quickly checked, D21 is 10 km per hex and TGW is 25 km. I think WITE2 scale is 10 miles (16 km). So it is something between both D21 and WITE2 in scale.
Re: TGW 1941-1945
Yes - division level but week turns and 25km/hex - a less consuming D1/Russo-German(RGW).
In between D21/RGW and East Front in scale. I'm impressed with both scenarios in the spectrum they cover, but playing D21/RGW is a huge commitment and East Front is a larger unit scale than I like (not to take anything away from the really well-thought-out dynamics of East Front.)

Assign them the section icon. This wouldn't be too time consuming.Cpl GAC wrote: Thu May 05, 2022 11:00 pm Would it be difficult/change play too much to set TGW like the Russo-German War where Soviet divisions do not divide?

"Absolutely nothing."

Re: TGW 1941-1945
Okay - I made the Soviet divisions indivisible and ran Elmer v Elmer 17 turns. Very similar loss results on the Soviet side - without the popcorn explosion of regiments.
Neither Elmer used the rail to move troops up. (Hence the red conga lines to the east).
On the German side three things jumped out at me; the rail repair troops barely moved into the interior and rail repair was awful, the Luftwaffe didn't move their bases up, and a lot of Romanian infantry didn't advance from Romanian - they stayed put but had objective tracks to advance.
The overall Axis thrust was definitely north instead of south this time.
