VVS the first year

Post by ncc1701e »

I really don't know what to do with VVS in 1941. Are you keeping few units on the map to fight a little? Are you putting everything in reserve to train pilots?

What do you do? Any advices?

Thanks

I try to keep on the map only air groups with new types of fighters and any tactical bombers. I mainly send the rest of the aircraft to the theaters to balance them and return them to the map as the aircraft are upgraded to new types. But I only use ground support. If a naval blockade is necessary, I place torpedo bombers and long-range bombers on the map. Similarly, if reconnaissance is necessary, I display aerial reconnaissance on the map. But mostly I keep them in theaters. I don't do any other special settings. However, I would advise you to replenish the guard air groups only with experienced pilots. I also set up all air groups to fly day and night, as well as to automatically change aircraft. But if you want, you can change the aircraft type manually.
Sorry, i use an online translator :(

The VVS outperforms the Luftwaffe in every possible aspect except for fighter engagements and naval patrol. Bomb the likeliest Luftwaffe airbases to get rid of their fighters and from then on you rule the skies. Be on the lookout for air groups with a lot of pilots that have good EXP - you can have air groups with like 0 planes and 50 or so pilots with EXP over 50. Do not send those to a theater box.

Send wiped out air groups that have very few pilots to the theater boxes on restricted pilots. Reorganise your AOGs so you typically have the same aircraft instead of various ones mixed together. From then on hit the ground support button and be on the lookout for 109s to bomb before they get in the air. The Luftwaffe cannot do anything well in the game relative to the VVS except for shooting down your planes with fighters and performing naval patrol.

With the log reading gone now bombing the Airbases become much harder. If the Germans stack those airfields with AA AND only stack 1 airgroup on the Airbase those bombers aren't going to do the damage you saw in what Beethoven did. My Airbases were stacked high. So bombing the airbases as a way to get rid of German fighters now I have my doubts.

60 air nm is too strong in ‘41 bc Germans don’t have enough 109 production.

At the same time, it doesn’t make sense for Soviet air NM to dip in ‘42, since their doctrines and skill improved drastically after ‘41. It’s also a game balance issue, because Soviets cannot gain air dominance by 11/42 with 45 air nm.

See my modified campaign in opponents wanted where I fix these issues.

The underlying cause that still remains is the amount of missions a side can perform to a hex.

Thanks for your replies. I will concentrate on MiG-3 and Yak-1 for fighters then. Is the LaGG-3 any good to maintain on the frontline?

I like LaGG-3 in game conditions more than MiG-3 or Yak-1.

It's a much better match for GS, they produce more and deal more damage, and they have hanging missiles which makes it useful in certain situations. They, like any other aircraft, lose to Bf-109s in direct combat, but in my opinion German bombers are better shot down. When meeting with them.

If you choose between Mig-3 Yak-1 and Lagg-3 for GS, I would advise you to pay attention to Lagg-3.
At the same time, any Soviet aircraft has its own niche, MIG-3s are good for SUP, they are fast and fly at those heights where Messer is. So they don’t suffer such big losses, the Yak-1 station wagon for any task if necessary, the Lagg-3 is a front-line attack fighter. Can storm can shoot down bombers. Not replaceable as an air defense aircraft due to high damage.
