Computer Takes Control of My Units!

Post by DukeBannon »

I just sent this in as a ticket but I thought some of you may have already seen it and have suggestions for a fix:

In the middle of the battle Quietly Flows the Donau, where I was playing the Pact side and the computer NATO, the game suddenly took control of my units. In preparation for moving forward almost all my units had Rest and Relaxation orders when suddenly, at about 0919, they started moving toward the objectives. All my units! I reloaded, gave the same orders, and saved the file “Quietly flows the Donau 230201_1031 @ 21_pct__0850_hrs Before Units Went Autonomous” and pressed Start and the computer did the same thing. At that point I created the “Quietly flows the Donau 230201_1031 @ 21_pct__0850_hrs After Units Went Autonomous” and am contacting you. I have version 2.1.0.6819.

This is a bug that I believe was previously squashed. Download and apply the new beta patch that was released this morning. If you see it again, please report it here in the forum along with any saved game (like you just did) and we will take a look at it.

Thanks for the suggestion Charles. What affect will this have on PBEM++ games I have underway?

Are you saving a PBEM game and reloading to finish the turn?
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

What impact will applying the beta update have on a PBEM++ game I just started? Can I have the beta update and still play a PBEM++ game with an opponent on the current released version? I suspect not but I wanted to ask.

The updated PBEM++ routines should have no impact at all on games in progress. The changes are related to uploading a game in progress if the system glitches out for any reason.

The 'computer taking control of wrong side' bug came up months ago and I could have sworn it was fixed once and for all. I would love to get any more detail you can remember or see again if this happens again. It is beyond infuriating, I know, but this is very complex code and there is clearly an obscure code path that results in this happening. The instant I can reproduce it, I can fix it!

Thanks, Rob C

Hello Rob,

I tried to send the following in a PM but it looks like it is still in my Outbox:

Hello Rob,

I still have all the save games files from this battle and I'd be happy to put them in a Zip and send them to you.

This isn't that big of a battle. I moved the two MR battalions to into cover and even though they didn't need it, I gave almost all of their units R&R orders. The following turn is when they decided to move on their own. Up to that point everything had occurred naturally.

Thinking the behavior might be related to the R&R orders, this morning I gave all of 2/10 MR, with the exception of the mortars, Screen orders but that didn't make a difference. Both battalions were possessed by demons at the same time just like before. I have captured this on video if that would help.
