AI Rules for Reinforcement, Supply and Movement

Post by OldRock55 »

The Strategic Command: American Civil War AI rules for reinforcement, supply and movement are not the same as player rules. When AI units are completely surrounded and/or cut off from supply, AI units continue to reinforce, supply and move as if they were not surrounded or cut off. This renders the game unsatisfying and frustrating. Attrition losses are not applied on an equal basis also.

Hi

The AI certainly should follow the same rules, there has been no special coding done to make it otherwise, and we would not agree with things being any different for them in that respect.

Please can you provide examples, preferably with a save turn, to support@furysoftware.com so we can investigate?

Hi,

Thanks for the files and it looks like what you've come across are some campaign specific rules and mechanics changes from the default campaign, e.g. regarding the 1866 Paraguay Under Seige campaign.

This is covered in the Strategy Guide, accessible in game via the Info->Strategy Guide button when in the game play screen near the upper right hand corner.

This would be the relevant section here:

Brigades in this campaign are significantly stronger than their Civil War counterparts to
reflect their status as the main combat unit for the Allied player in this campaign. Brigades
also have a minimum supply of 3 at all times (even when cut off from supply), and receive a
combat bonus when attacking from swamps that reduces the usual damage penalty from
attacking from a swamp tile to 25% instead of the usual 50%.

And to clarify, this is not an AI bonus, just one of the few changes for some unit types in the campaign.

The developer diary here covers more of this as well:

Hope this helps,
Hubert
