[1.21m] Unit deployment and strategic movement inconsistency

Post by tikhun »

Deployments of new units ignore the logistic cost of moving ammo that is basically teleported for free. This results in absurd situations: a tank battalion can cost 200 logpoints to deploy, but once there, strategic movement of this battalion can cost many thousands of logpoints.

It would also be great to add an option to deploy units without ammo (so it can be supplied later locally) and to unload ammo from a unit to strategically move it around. Units can have huge piles of ammo with them, and while ammo stocks can be transported in parts, units with ammo cannot.

You are right. Has always been like this, but is now more visible due to the increased ammunition usage.

The logic behind is that strategic transfers are special operations (that should cost the player more) while the others are part of standard and more efficient operations.

I agree it is slightly inconsistent and hope to find some time in the future to harmonize these rules more.

I guess you mean raising a formation away from SHQ, so it appears in a position along your the logistics network.

Honestly, I find these ammo-movement inconsistencies, there are a few, easy to ignore, but as a single player rather than PvP.

Upcoming new open beta has some big changes to transfers in general. The rules will be more consistent and will also address the super high strategic transfer cost for those ammo-intensive units.

1.21o notes:

In this tab it still shows the old weight (on the right):

Also, in the box that appears when you hover your mouse over that tab, it would probably make sense to remove the "Weight without items:" and "Note that energy/fuel count as weight 0." messages, since they no longer have effect. "Weight without items" value is always the same as regular weight & all items have a weight of 0 on units now, I think. Unless you want to put some info on the 25% ammo weight effect there.
