Ship Upgrades
I read the manual section on ship upgrades but it told very little. Could someone help me with upgrading strategy. What kind of upgrades should I concentrate on . I presume anything that adds radar is worth taking the ship out of service. I am playing a full campaign against the AI. It’s 06/14/42.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Ship Upgrades
Some people like to do all of the upgrades all at once, as soon as is possible. I like to do them when the ship goes for some major repairs, otherwise I will do them if it does not impair my operations. By delaying some upgrades if another short one is coming in a few months, it may not even increase the time or only slightly. But it also depends upon what the upgrade gives you. While radar is important, don't forget to look at the AA increases for your escorts going into enemy air units range as well as the ASW increases for escorts.

Re: Ship Upgrades
I always try to keep the dates for attack transport conversions in mind most. APs to APAs and LSIs, AKs to AKAs, etc. I tend to overlook the small fry like the Dutch and Filipino xAKLs which get a few measly AA machine guns if any. With some of the really major BB upgrades you have to anticipate the ship being in dry dock for close to a year.
I've often wondered if anyone ever put together a chart showing the upgrade dates for all ship classes?

Re: Ship Upgrades
To RG’s point about AA upgrades: the raw AA number upgrade may show only a minimal or even a negative increase in AA power. Look at what actual devices upgrade. For example, 20 or 40 mm bofers upgrades over 1.1 inch guns may not show a significant increase in raw AA, but with the upgrade you get probably get increased range and hitting power. Just as with AV for land units, quality of the devices matters.

I've this. Can't attach it directly. Sent as .txt but it's a .ods file(Libre ss) so you'll have to rename it.Platoonist wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:01 am I always try to keep the dates for attack transport conversions in mind most. Re: Ship Upgrades
A lot of those long upgrades are for the Battleships that were bombed at Pearl Harbor. Not all of the ships of the same class even had the same upgrades. Those upgrades diverge and then there may be upgrades after that. I don't rush those ships through repairs if there is a long upgrade during that time. Just move lots of fuel forward for the time period when you will be using them because not only do they use a lot of fuel for themselves but they can and will refuel their escorts.Platoonist wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 1:01 am I always try to keep the dates for attack transport conversions in mind most. I downloaded it, I changed the extention, but libre will not open it either as the .ods file or as the .txt file. I get a complaint that the file is corrupt.Chris21wen wrote: Thu Aug 31, 2023 6:01 amI've this. Can't attach it directly. Probably excel preventing it. I've saved it as an .xls format. Try this.

I appreciate the effort Chris, but still no go.Chris21wen wrote: Fri Sep 01, 2023 6:53 am Probably excel preventing it. I've saved it as an .xls format. Try this.
It could be that my version of Excel is too old. Microsoft probably wants me to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

The last one worked for me, I sent you a pm. Hopefully either of those saves will work for you, just remove the ".txt" and try them.Platoonist wrote: Fri Sep 01, 2023 12:05 pmI appreciate the effort Chris, but still no go.Chris21wen wrote: Fri Sep 01, 2023 6:53 am Probably excel preventing it.
