Updates?

Post by ASPARTANSPEAKS »

I was just wondering if this game is still being updated and supported; or should we expect to see TOAW5 at some point in the near future? And what changes would people like to see made to this game to make it better?

Adding leaders is an interesting feature though I imagine it to be a very subjective undertaking to assign ratings for various attributes to each individual.

At one point, maybe TOAW 6 🤪, TOAW will maybe modernize along Gary Grisby model, mixed up with something a la Harpoon. Then we can have hybrid turn based / real time.

Supreme Ruler 2010 was interesting concept. I was very good at that game, some wars I had only 29 destroyed units because I had the tactics to first defend hehe so AI just mindlesly throwed away units at me to be destroyed.

Grand Tactician Civil War interesting but Oh Mx God - Game Labs - Ultimate General Civil War is masterpiece

You will see they will "dethrone" Creative Assembly.

That game made me *bloody everything* on American Civil War

In fact it was fascinating to read about it.

Depends who you ask. My opinion is that the game is dead. It is possible it can still be resuscitated but I don't believe the current treatment plan will lead to that outcome.

I'm not averse to ponying up for an TOAW5, but only if it offers significant enhancements and upgrades to make it worthwhile. I purchased TOAW4 mainly because of the more in depth naval combat model.

We know that an update is in the works. It includes adding formation commanders whose attributes impact formation combat efficiency, includes sea interdiction and combat support percentages on the main screen and an indicator for day/night periods. All minor improvements. Hopefully some other changes are still undiscovered.

There has been a long-standing request enabling the player to move units in/out and to/from formations during game play, i.e. modifying formation TO&Es in real time. Considering how complex that change would be and how archaic the code is, I doubt that TOAW will include such a change without a complete rewrite.

Other than that, what changes would you consider “significant”. Keep in mind the practicality of working with old code.

I would buy TOAW V in an instant. It has its limitations and frustrations it's the best wargame I have ever played.

I have a couple thoughts but I'd like to ponder it some more. A lot of the John Tiller games are also of older vintage and they are being updated on a regular basis.

We want Coin Op Arcade version of TOAW. Sega could be manufacturer 🍿😉
