Mission editor unit placements

Post by Ocean1 »

I understand that when editing a mission, the manual states:
"Currently individual unit placement is not saved, other than for pillboxes. Formation waypoints and their SOPs and
most other settings are saved in the scenario data."
I'm hoping that indicates that work may be on the horizon to allow for this. As I try to create a scenario and place the units in what I (as a scenario creator) want the player to be presented with, it's a little frustrating to see the units placed in the open and "randomly", rather than carefully set locations - especially when trying to make ambush or defense scenarios. I haven't gotten into the "Developer mode" yet, but will make that config edit and give it a try.

As I've said before, this is a great game and the fact that I'm having fun trying to create scenarios speaks volumes to that! For I never had the desire to create scenarios for other games, just play what was presented in the game.

I'm enthusiastic about Armored Brigade 2, really like it. What I don't like is this forum. It's empty and silent, compard to those of Battlefront. Posts don't get answered here, which is not as it should be. No offense meant and again, I really like this game, but had to say this.

Have you tried to place them as formations and lock them?

I did try to lock them after placing units and they still reset. When I placed as formations, and didn't rearrange the single units (for better cover, etc.), it appears the formation remains anchored where it was set (I assume based on the leader, although I didn't pay attention to that).

While this works to a degree, it would be nice for units to stay put where set by the scenario designer. I tried doing this by setting the formation to "Free", and they still reposition.

Again, not a "do or die" issue and the game still excels, but if there is a way to implement it so the units remain exactly where placed by mission designers, that's on my "wish" list.

Thanks for the replay and I've found you and others more than willing to answer questions here. I appreciate it.

I see. Okay, thank you, I will check it out.

Btw is it possible for infantry to dig in (trenches or fox holes) before or during the battle?

You have the option, at least on a "Defence" mission, to have units "Dig in" on the final screen (Objectives).

The way I do it is by locking the formation and then using the rotate and distance commands to position units as I want, and they tend to maintain those positions consistently. Currently, it is not possible to lock individual units except for bunkers. However, unlike in AB1, this might become possible in the future, which is why we have added a new binary file for scenarios.
