Your favourite wargames

Post by Jafele »

Which are the best wargames you´ve ever played? Those that you still play today. I´d like to add some of them to my collection. :D

My top list

1-Advanced Tactics Gold
2-Second Front
3-Campaign Series
4-Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm
5-Tiller napoleonic battles
Las batallas contra las mujeres son las únicas que se ganan huyendo.

The whole CM series.

In 26 years, nothing else has ever come close.

Sid Meier's Gettysburg
Civilization 2 and 3
Combat Mission Beyond Overlord
Several by Ageod - Birth of America, AACW, Alea Jacta Est
Campaigns on the Danube by Frank Hunter
Advanced Tactics

So many, and I barely scratch below the surface of any of them. I am owner of many; master of none.

In some ways Campaigns on the Danube is my favourite game system because it so explicitly shows the uncertainty of pre telegraph/telephone generalship. You send an order to someone that will take 20 hours to deliver; but even after 20 hours the recipient may have moved elsewhere, or your courier is lost.

Is it only about pbem list or for solo? As solo tends to be about different time frames and different conflicts. A bit more experimental.

Both are valid. If you wish to make a solo and a pbem list that would be cool.

World at War A World Divided. Computer game.
I also like Pacific War. But it is a board game.

But it is all about Encyclopedia Britannica conflicts, it doesnt' tell much about Kornilov Cossacks. How some march to Don in winter. How Spain lost colonies as Miguel(Ageod) did in 'Libertad o Muerte!'

i haven't played any board-games for some time now.. currently lack the space. however my favorite board games ever played were:
1. Air Assault on Crete - a cool little game depicting the airborne/naval action on crete. it was bundled with a smallish what if game called 'invasion of malta'..

2. Rise and Decline of the TR - spent countless hours with good company and good times

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/156 ... hird-reich

3. victory in the pacific - uncomplicated and fun to play.. recreates pacific war action.

all the (ww2) games i play now are on the pc, a few:
1. the troop - turn based which may soon have mp
2. valor and victory - board game type of action. great tutorial.
3. the others are sports games, madden/pga and pba.

Steel Panthers in all its incarnations. I even fire up SP3 on DosBox on occasion. I also even made a complete Civil War mod for WinSPWW2.

Only other wargame I play is Civil War Generals 2, the oldie-but-goodie from Sierra.
