The “Out of fuel range” bug shows its ugly head again

Post by 100thMonkey »

Platform: Steam
Build version: v1.3.1.0 Beta + Expansion and all DLCs
Severity: Low
Annoyance factor: High
Confusion for new players: I wonder...
Saved game: 2 saves in the second post in the thread.

Again, the infamous, and long-standing “Beyond maximum Construction Ship fuel range” BUG, on which I’ve reported many times (see below). It’s very annoying because it happens every game, without exception, and it does so many times each game (usually until the fuel range is so vast that it covers the whole galaxy).

This time, I got a message saying that new resources have been discovered at Arleureta. I clicked the “Show Me” button, which selects the planet on which there are 2 resources that I want.

So, I want to order the construction of a mining station, but the selection panel button is disabled, and if I hover above it, I get the infamous tooltip:

At this point, the current design of my construction ship is CST-2 Construction Ship, an automated design, which has a fuel range of 233M.

Having encountered this problem MANY, MANY times before, I’ve let the game run to confirm that this tooltip is BS and that the planet is NOT out of CS fuel range.

Later in the game (see second save in the second post below), I get an advisor message suggesting to construct a mining station at the same location. So now, the location is in -range, even though it wasn’t before, without any change whatsoever to the construction ship design or it’s fuel range!

Now it's in range.png

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

There should be a check, when the initial notification is generated (new resources found), to verify if the location is in range. It that’s too onerous in term of processing, then, change the button so it allows the player to do such a check on-demand. And display a message saying “One moment please” while it’s doing it. After the check, enable or disable the button allowing to queue a mining station build, depending on the result of the check.

I’d MUCH rather wait a few seconds than being lied to and being unable to use a functionality of the interface that I should be able to use. And then have to jump through hoops to manually assign a CS to the construction.

As mentioned at the begining of the report, I’ve reported this bug many times, and for a long time. And for one of those report (the 2022 one), I didn’t get any reply or acknowledgment, so maybe it wasn’t even seen by the team:

In 2023: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 6&t=396970
In 2025: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopi ... 6&t=409330

A fix would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the 2 saves:

The first save is when I got the initial notification for the new resources (out of range). And the second one is when I got the advisor suggestion to build a mining station at the exact same location (in-range). In both saves, the same CS design with the same fuel range!
