Which GG game has the deepest player managed logistics

Post by vinnland »

I have played a bit of wite1 (maybe an hour) only. I want to buy one of the three games (1, 2 or Pacific AE).

But I really like managing logistics as the player. Of the three games which one has the deepest logistics systems. By deep, I mean play managed depth.

Thanks

WITE 2 has much more complex logistics than WITE 1; it's one of the main differences between them.

IMO, WITP-AE has the most complex logistical system. Some of it by necessity is abstracted, but playing Japan you have to manage several different inputs and outputs....so if that's your bag, you'll love it. You need to take Oil, get it refined to Fuel, move that to locations with Heavy Industry to make stuff, then take that stuff and use it to build ships and airplanes. Several steps. Try that game, it's worth the $80

Interesting. When I was reading about this, the message I got was that wite2 was more simple/streamlined. Thanks for letting me know.

I will simply reply to complexity in general of which logistics is an important part:

I own and have played:

EDBTR
WITP-AE
WITW
WITE-2

I would say it is between WITE-2 and WITP-AE. I am playing WITE-2/WITW and not WITP-AE:

WITE-2:
- Better UI mainly due to evolutionary improvements in UIs.
- UI better adapted to higher resolution displays; again due to tech changes.
- More of the mechanics exposed to the player. (WITP-AE is not a GG project, but a GG base authorized permitting Matrix betas to alter code and sell the finished product)
- Greater possibilities for replay and variation. Although WITP-AE has many player scenarios, the base engine is more predictable.
- The WITP-AE engine more relies on scripting behavior (again replayability).
- Perhaps one of the most tedious GG games with setup for the GC (Allies upon Pearl) requiring 1-2 days of prep work which is the same task for every play through.
- Ground combat may feel over simplified. Does it matter? Yes, in China it does.
- Issues with sub warfare modeling (as most micro naval games struggle with this).

* Final note: From an operational combat perspective, I think (not only are the mechanics; very similar), but theaters are different enough to make both WITW/WITE-2 worth playing in 2026.
2021 - Resigned in writing as a 20+ year Matrix Beta and never looked back ...
