German air activity in HTTR

Post by madmickey »

The 30 Corp units were given generous AA units that could be used in land battles. I like to detach the AA guns from tank battalions. Does anybody have information on the German Air Force ground attack activity and their effect? I have been only playing British side so far. Historically, did the British keep the AA guns near their tanks?

Historically XXX Corps/Guards order of march give the main body of those LAA Regtiments a place somewhere in the middle/back of the collumn:

Grouping of formations and units for movement -Operation 'Garden'

5 Guards Armoured: A1 (Destination Arnhem and North)
Brigade

<cut>

94 LAA regt: A6
less detachments

Reconnaissane Party 100 AA: A7
Brigade

One Squadron: A8
2 HCR

<cut>

100 AA Brigade: A11 (Destination Nijmegen)
elements

The 100th AA Brigade (156th Heavy AA and 113th & 123rd Light AA regiments) was moved up to protect the Nijmegen bridges from the air.

When needed however they where pressed into battle.
On the 22nd when KG Walther had breached the road north of Veghel and KG Huber threadened to sever the road south of the town.
The 123rd Light AA and 156th Heavy AA where caught there as they where just passing through the town and where committed in the battle.

In the game you don't have to worry about the luftwaffe bombing the bridges, the player can use them in the ground support roll. Set your ROF on high and blast away [;)].

There is no anti-air activity or air cover.

I know airstrikes are only scheduled for day light.

Dave, do weather conditions have any impact on airstrikes or their effectiveness?

Not as such. It is up to the Scenario designer to coordinate that with the weather schedule. This is one area that needs more realistic treatment. It's slotted for Normandy IIRC.
