TOE?

Post by StuccoFresco »

I see the TOE file has a single entry for every type of unit but I have several questions:

1- some TOE files have more types, are they hard coded?

1b- Can I add new types and what characteristics would they get?

2- can a unit type have more than one category of "components"? Like, men AND guns together?

3- are the different TOEs added to a side representing different nations? Is that the way they show up in the scenario editor?

Thanks.

Your four questions might be better answered via a Zoom Call.

Shoot me an E-Mail (dontimian@hotmail) and we’ll ID a date and time. I have a Zoom license, so we can talk as long as our schedules will permit / No problem arranging a follow-up call.

For what it’s worth, I’m in the US (Mountain Time Zone) . . . Two hours behind US Eastern Time.

Thanks,

Uh, we are 8 time zones apart, doesn't seem easy. I also don't have a zoom account, making one just for an intercontinental call about some questions about a game seems a bit much, honestly.

The Zoom Invite I’ll send you will include a link to our call / You will not need to set-up a Zoom Account (but your machine will need to download the Zoom App . . . which is automatic).

I’m retired (and get up early), so even with an eight hour difference, fairly sure we can find a good time for you.

1) Sorry . . . Not clear what you're referring to when you say "TOE file"? Are you referring to the Editor / Army Table / Type Column? Which lists 16 unit types . . . Anti-Aircraft, Anti-Tank, Armor, etc.

1b, 2, and 3) Need to understand what you're referring to when you say "TOE file" before I can try and answer the other three questions.

O.K. / Thank you . . .

1) No the data in those files is not hard coded (in the game), but the UNITTYPES are. The information on the various unit counters (in a scenario) is modified via the Editor. Not the unitToe files. The 16* UNITTYPEs listed in the unitToe files map to the 16* unit types found in the Editor / Army Table / Type Column.

* Roger the Russians have a 17th UNITTYPE PARTISAN. And in the Editor (for Stalingrad) the Russians have 17 unit types.

1b) No. The unitToe files were originally used during the initial development of Stalingrad. They were (in part) created to allow a player to breakdown (for example) a Battalion into three Companies or a Company into three Platoons.

2) No only one . . . MEN, GUNS, or VEHICLES.

3) No. You manually key-in the info for each unit in a given scenario or mod a previous scenario by first Exporting a specific Editor Tab or Table, then mod it (it's a spreadsheet when Exported), Delete All (of the original Tab or Table), and then Import the one you just mod'ed.
