Question on Graphics

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Question on Graphics

Post by Reg »

First of all congratulations to the team on updating and expanding the WITP game system into a whole new world. :D

I would like to ask how the underlying graphics engine has been updated for this new release. As great as the WITP/AE game system is, it's Achilles Heel has always been that old graphic engine it was built upon. The inability to utilise multiple screens* and being locked to the default display was always a embuggerance to a smooth running user interface and made the title look old and clunky despite its excellent game play. I'm sure WITP lost a lot of sales to people that couldn't look past their first impressions.

(* in windowed mode it could be displayed on a second screen but the view didn't update)

I worked around these limitations by launching WITP-AE (as well as number of older Matrix titles) in a DxWND window but in this day and age this capability should be built in and not a third party add-on.

All the Best for the success of your new initiative,
Cheers,
Reg

The graphical improvements are remarkable and solve the problems you mentioned in your post, although there is a clear inspiration from AE in the new engine graphics.
On the other hand, the graphics are work in progress, because the new engine allows constant improvements.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Thank you for your response.

The ability to update/mod the game art has always been a big strength of the WITP game system (to which I have contributed extensively in the past).

I am really pleased to hear that the graphics engine technical limitations have been addressed which will improve the user experience and position the game series for the future.

I hope this and future titles in the series do well as SCW looks really good.
(I was wondering where WITP was going to go after AE).
Cheers,
Reg.
