Turn 76 German phase

Post by kentkroeckel »

December 9, 1944.

Victory points: For turn -25 and game total is -261.

Europe air: Cold.
Ground: Light snow.
Snow level is 2-4 and water level is 1-4.

Northern Italy. Air is heavy rain.
Ground is heavy mud.
Water level is 5-9. There will not be many attacks in these conditions.

I purged logs for this turn and air did not load correctly. Went to metrics and it displayed 106 losses for German while Allies lost 76. No idea what type.

Metalist sent Germany's one attack to me by E-mail and that is the one that recorded for Allies. But thank you metalist becasue the system is getting to be a hit and miss with records.

I highlighted a few items in this German attack. To start with, Germany is attacking. Next, there are at least five armored Axis divisions involved, most SS. Over nine hundred armored vehicles for Axis while Allies had over a thousand. 114 were lost by German while Allies lost 360.

D-Day area only had one hex change; Germany withdrew from it due to exposure. It is circled in green.

Germany lost 348 aircraft from air phases while Allies lost 797. This is an advantage of 449 for Luftwaffe. There were near a hundred more losses for Germany during ground combat.

Soviet Advance

Post by kentkroeckel »

Star date, supplemental. Star Trek humor there.

Great question Mr. Bairdlander2. This is a bit of a letdown when it comes to WitW. Final Russian advance line is not historical. In fact, only one of the three hexes of Berlin is shown as captured. And, the line is several hexes east of the Elbe River, which was the agreed to meeting line for both sides fighting Germany. Playing a historical game, Russia should be up to this point on turn 94 but is not near. I have found this point irritating because much of Germany is free from soviet occupation when in reality, this should not be the case.

A better representation would be for the Allies unable to cross the Elbe river. This is how Hungry, Yugoslavia, and Greece are dealt with. No Allied movement. But I am sure many players would not like it if Allies cannot take Berlin.

In WitW Yugoslavia and Greece are never taken by the Soviets yet Allies cannot enter them either. Yet historically, parts of Yugoslavia were occupied by Russia. Greece was not but that is because Germany pulled out and made a new line at the top (North) of Yugoslavia. This let partisans take control of these two nations in early 1945. As such, they should be converted to Soviet control, for game purposes. Definitely, not left under German control.

Example: I have German air units conducting air missions near the Greek border right now.

WitW did a good job with Austria on its final battle line. It shows the Soviets capturing Vienna in April of 1945. If I remember correct, the line might even go a couple hexes west of that, which is close enough to historical to not cause much of a fuss.

On the first week of 1945 I will do an update of front line for Russia Mr. Bairdlander2.

My opinion one of the main reasons for D Day was to prevent the SU from taking all of Germany.

Germany did one attack and below is the results. It happened on Brest Peninsula and was an expensive victory for Axis. But this is often the case, every hex being costly for Allied victories too.

Next week is 1945.

Victory Points: -21 for turn and -329 for game.

Germany did one attack and metalist sent this to me. However, the BLM recorded this for Allies so I will use it since it is easier to display this way. The hex was on the southern invasion site of France. Allies repelled the attack.

Ground losses for this phase were, 27,625 for Axis while Allies lost 19,379.
Total air losses for all phases were, 510 for Axis while Allies lost 1,188. this is an advantage of 678 for Luftwaffe. It did not go well for Allies on the air phase.

Germany withdraws happen from turn 80 through turn 84 and some of them are substantial.

1945

Post by kentkroeckel »

January 6, 1945.

I wanted to display two aspects to the challenge between Metalist and myself for 1945 but feel it would be too much.

A: Russian advance with Eastern Front.
B: Air resources; pools of existing aircraft type.

Therefore I will tackle the first one , Eastern Front on this segment and then air resources on the next turn.

Areas like Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, cannot be invaded by Allies or Russia. Meaning, no ground units can go into them, thereby change control. Other Axis minors, and Russian hexes cannot be entered by Allies either. Though Axis air is able to use all countries except Russian.

There is an exception to the above but it almost never happiness. If Allies are able to join the Russian front south of Berlin, then Axis controlled hexes south of it are flipped to Allies. And yes, this includes Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungry, and all the other mirror countries. Yet still, Allies are not able to enter them.

It took five pictures to show Eastern Front so here we go from the south. First picture is of Greece and surrounding area. Many countries in this region have already been advanced on by Russia to its fullest. Meaning, Eastern Front does not go into Greece, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia. The rest of the line forming the Eastern Front is still moving westward, roughly speaking.

A: Island of Crete and most of Greece.

Combined air phase:
Axis, 336.
Allies, 441.
Difference of 105, advantage for Luftwaffe. Weather was snow and rain over map.

Spain landing site had many attacks by Allies and several were successful. The port hex of Bayonne was taken and this is important. There is not another port nearby. This region is also far for German logistics. Finally, bad weather limits supply to Axis units.

December 6, 1945.

BLM is still working so I will take advantage of this. A hex was occupied next to beach on newest landing site. It was empty so nothing impressive.

Established landing site south of Brest is located on town of Les Sables. Nothing to report on it either. That means there were no successful attacks.

Brest Peninsula: There were many successful attacks in this region. There was also one hex taken on original D-Day site and with that, the two beachheads are now one. Twelve hexes were taken in total. This was accomplished despite the heavy mud and snow due to short logistical lines for Allies. Every town has a depot while Germany is so far from its sources of supply. Hexes under allied control are outlined behind red contact line. German units that have little to no combat strength left are circled in yellow. Axis Brest line is breaking. Or so it seems to Allied Command.

It took seven attacks to win the one hex on original D-Day. This makes it possible now to link up next turn. roughly speaking 2,600 Axis causalities. Allies had 4,300. this is for just one hex. A very important hex. It takes a lot of attrition to keep momentum moving. Below are attacks A, B, and C.
