Missing combat report in combatreport.txt

Post by jetjockey »

In the combat replay from the past turn, I conducted a CV attack on one of the Japanese transport taskforces. I was pleased to see several ships and nearly 3,000 troops go to the bottom, only it doesn't look like they did. The combatreport.txt is missing both reports. It does show him crippling one of my CVEs, but there is no indication that these strike occurred. What gives?

What switches are you using? Not sure why, but apparently adding the -dd_sw switch to the command line properties has solved this issue in the past for other players.

I am not sure what those switches would have to do with it. The file is there and it recorded most of the turn except for my airstrikes on the Japanese TF at Batavia. Additionally, 47 Dauntless dive bombers participated in the attack yet did not expend a single Sortie Point or accumulate a single Fatigue point.

Sync-bug is a problem that appears from time to time. Various reasons have been suggested for it and my take in games against the Computer Japan is that if I do not save and exit for a long period data begins to vanish from the screen. Could be all the LCUs at a base, could be a TF, could be industry - anything. Every time you look at something in game (like clicking on a base) the game appears to keep all that data in memory (my evidence, there is a moment's hesitation the first time you click on it as it is being retrieved but subsequent clicks on the same icon seem to reveal much quicker). Eventually the computer's RAM is going to get full and it will have to drop some info to open some info.

An alternate explanation is use of the ESC key at an inappropriate time. If you press the ESC key while an action is taking place (e.g. a combat animation) it stops that action. But if there is no particular action taking place, no open screen or menu - just the game map showing and nothing selected - pressing ESC makes the computer go HUH? and sometimes do inappropriate things with other data in its RAM.

So the fix for the Sync Bug appears to be saving the game, exiting the game completely and restarting it.
