Just bought this title ... Gotta couple of questions

Post by scout1 »

Just got this and looking forward to learning it .... Didn't think I'd have some questions this soon ......

First - Manuals
I'm a dinosaur so wanted to print these ... I'm a paper guy, so I just dated myself .... Chose FM02 Battlefield Primer
pdf file is only a little over 1Mb, like 34 pages ... Printer is only spitting out a two sided page every 4 or 5 minutes ...
Reminds me of past game manuals which imbedded stuff on each page and made printing VERY slow ... Several
games now offer "printer friendly" manuals .... Is that the issue here ?

Second - Start / Select screens running off game background screen. See image below

Bottom of sub window barely shows (what I believe) is exit and select buttons on the bottom. The top of sub window exceeds top green row at top.... can't adjust size. Shouldn't this be inside to background window ?

Is there some setting I need to adjust ?

Scout1,

1). Not sure why it is printing so slowly for you. We use MS Word to create the documents, and then those are saved as PDFs for the shipped product, and those PDFs should not have anything embedded that slows things down. What printer are you using, and what is your print quality setting? I would try using the fast color or eco color (whatever the low setting is on a few pages to see how that looks.

2). For the screen issue, what is your screen resolution and also your Windows font scaling size? From there, we can work on the issue.

Thanks for the quick response .....

Let me play arounnd with the printing aspect for a bit and get back with you .... And thanks for not using really small font in these documents, like some other game titles do ... The font ais still a tad smaller than my old would prefer but viable.

Relative to the display issue, I got to thinking about my display settings this morning ..... before I saw your post .....

My scale was set to 125%, again to ease my old eyes ..... Changed it to 100% as a test and the described issue went away .... I may play around and see if I hit a hard stop with 125% or if I need to change this to 100% for this title ....

We have a bunch of "well-seasoned" eyes on this team, so we try to make things as legible as possible with the ton of info we need to provide for this game/sim.

Update on my two challenges, Printing and Scaling impact resulting in sub windows growing too large

Printing
- Issue Resolved .... Like all things electronic, when all else failed, power down and try again. Worked for my printer which I use wireless ... cleared whatever demons were hiding in there ..... Yay

Scaling
- Haven't started a game yet, but checked the various windows which pop up when initially mashing the first round of buttons .... Results here surprised me a tad ..... Sub-windows for Tutorials, New Scenario, New Campaign and Multiplayer all exceeded allotted screen area with a scaling factor of 125%, but at least left a portion of the selection/cancel buttons available and active ..... At 100% scaling all of these looked fine.....
However, interestingly enough the Set User Preferences sub-window size did NOT change going from 100% scaling to 125% scaling. I would have thought what's good (or bad) for the goose is good for the gander ...

Again, still haven't started a game yet (got reading to do) so not sure if the scaling factor will cause issues for "in game" activities ....
