Surrender!!

Post by Philwd »

The US surrenders. I commend Condor on an excellent game. I still think he would have won.

To answer Joe the final score on turn 343 was
USN 7943
IJN 14305

Ships sunk
USN 216
IJN 206

By class US IJN
CV 4 0
CVL/CVE 1 1
BB 2 1
CA 5 5
CL 5 9
DD 50 64
DM/DMS 9
MSW 5 4
SS 9 11
AP/AK 49 100[X(]
AO/TK 7 4
PG 4 14
APD 4 6
PT30
LST7
AV/CS 2

How I sank them:
Kates:56
Vals:2
subs:6
BB:19
Yamato:5
Long Lance:23
CA:10
mine:4

Of my 100 transports lost USN subs accounted for 64[X(]. The vast majority of the rest were gunfire. I thought it very interesting the wide divergence of how each navy sank the other. My Vals were next to worthless while my Kates were deadly. Condor's subs were the deadliest followed by naval gunfire. My BB's accounted for as many ships as did the Long Lance. That was a surprise. SBD's did sink ships but not as many as did Condor's BBs. Mines were a complete non-factor sinking ships. However their psychological impact far outweighed the damage they caused.

UV has to be the best wargame ever. I'm already going through withdrawl symptoms.

I'm probably going to take a short break from the game then jump back in. Thank you everyone for tuning in and offering suggestions.

Excellent game, folks.

Ever since my old Flat Top days, I have always esteemed my Kates as the finest anti-ship weapon in the IJN arsenal. In my UV games, I am always concerned to marshall their strength and use them well (i.e. not for bombing bases afap).

I'm being given the same lesson in USN sub capability by neuromancer. They are truly deadly.

Good show and drinks all round!

Yes, Kate's are very useful - for a while! Unfortunately 8/10 are lost in any 1943 strike against US carriers or CAP'ed warship tf's. Then untrained replacement pilots make them almost worthless...

Val's should be used before torpdeo bombers goes in, after damaging and slowing down ships, it's much easier to score torpedo hits. The combination of bombs and torpedos usually leads to an immediate sinking as well.

Great game guys, been enjoying it! Are you going at it again, or will you wait for WitP?

It's been a pleasure reading your AARs gentlemen. They sparked my return to PBEM after about an 8 month absence. I'm now in the midst of a good game against Col. Frost, although I am certain my Allied forces will win that one in the end! [:D]

Thank you all for the comments. It was great fun to try and come up with some of the quips and quotes in the AARs.

PzB, I'll definitely be in the hunt for another IJN opponent very soon (once I get the paper trail from the game with Quark sorted out) - and maybe even get the courage to try more than one game this time [;)].

madflava, glad you were able to get a PBEM going. It is the best way to play (IMHO).

Great AAR Quark and Condor. It is sad that the malfunctions in the game seemed to make so much difference and caused a lot of problems. I remember Quarks numerous transport problems and now Condor can not get ships released. [&:]

Hi PzB,
I'm not sure about WiTP yet. The long campaign single day turn is definitely out. Plus I don't know if my old P3 600 MHz computer will even run the game. I've asked in the WiTP forum but no real answer yet. Seems all the testers have better machines[:(]. In any case I would wait for at least 1 patch to come out before I jumped in. I don't want to restart any games.

So when I add it all up I can get a good way through another UV game before I would tackle WiTP.[:)] So after taking a short break I'll probably start a new game.

Nomad,
It is unfortunate. If Condor knew how weak my ground forces really were he would have plowed right through the Solomons; CVs or not. Most of my regiments were little more than reinforced naval garrisons. I found combining fragments with each other when neither is the parent unit is highly risky and subject to having both fragments go poof! I think before I start a new game a full reinstall is in order. Just in case that's what was causing the wierdness.

Thanks,
Quark - Phil
