New start, April Update on the way?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

It would be nice to hear something. It's been pretty quiet here on WIF. I'm sure the guys are working on it and are very busy.....BUT it would be nice to hear even a quick little update. It doesn't have to be elaborate.

No Update promised

Post by Greyshaft »

Matrix has not committed to any particular schedule for development or updates on WIF. I am as deeply frustrated by the delay as anyone else but lets not give Matrix our own timetable and then berate them for not keeping to it.

Having said that... I agree that an update would be great!!!

Just because there have been no updates or commitment to a schedule does not mean there has been a "delay." Matrix only recently (in game development terms) picked up this idea for a game.

Come to think of it, if there is no announced schedule, there can be no delay.

Let's get WitP, EiA, and 1914-1918 (I refuse to call it "Guns of August") published first.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

Having been around Matrix Games since it was basically just about Steel Panthers, I can from my own viewpoint, consider the cWiF project here, to be perhaps the great reach they have attempted.

That said, I think it is just impressive they even began.

The board game has been around for years though, and likely will be around another decade too. And I think it's fans will be interested in this game no matter how long Matrix Games takes.

But, I have waited (and waited and waited and waited and waited :) ) for Combat Leader, a project I personally think is "easier", and yet I am still waiting hehe.

If this game sees the light of day within 5 years I plan to applaud.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

Good things definitely take some time, and if Matrix does it right, as they usually try very hard to do, this could be a long wait.

I started watching Matrix almost 4 years ago hoping that UV would eventually mean WITP and I've almost lasted long enough to see it.

World in Flames is as complex (in my opinion) a game as Matrix could have tackled, be patient.

But I'd still like to hear how things are going, or if a tentative timetable has been agreed on.

Personally I prefer no news, assuming that all involved are giving 100% of their time to the game design and have no time to post here. I also haven't been to hurried about this game design for a while now as I've begun to understand it's complexity (once Matrix came in on the project I expected and still expect some speed up due to the added program capacity, but even with those considerations I'd never guess at a date when this monster might be ready for a new beta session (not to speak of actual publication)).

Sometimes no news is better then the company providing a report of expectations only to not be able to deliver....then the true complaining will really begin....as others have mentioned, this is a mommoth undertaking and will no doubt take quite awhile to complete...most likely, we will be busy with Battlefronts SC2, Matrix's World at War, and Guns of August, before this game sees the light of day...I'm sure those three upcoming titles will keep me quite busy for a long time!

Russo-German War '41-'44 by Schwerpunkt is an outstanding game (operational level) and a good way to bide your time while you wait for cWiF. I haven't played long enough to judge the AI, but it has PBEM as well as hot seat. I don't feel bad talking up another game company on this forum as I know everyone will buy a good game regardless of the company behind it.

A post report on WIF, Now 05 May and still waiting for some thing that was indicated would occur by a Matrix worker in a previous thread.

It doesn't have to give deadlines just lets us know where the developers think they have got to, what they have done in the last month and a half.

I really like the complexity of this game and understand that it will be very difficult to repoduce quickly, especially the AI. However there was something done by Chris M previously that as code maynot be useful but in idea should help understand some of the relationships in the game and give ideas in how to solve bugs.

Please give us something.
