Curse this game...

Post by Fallschirmjager »

I got a call about two hours ago from EB telling me I could pick up my copy of Madden 2005 the night before the release date.
I had completly forgot that I pre-ordered it almost a month ago.
I almost cancled my pre-order.

I will go pick up the game that night but it will sit in its packaging for probably a good month before I touch it.
This damn game has killed the rest of the time I devote for other games [:(]

Its just not fair...sigh

Normally I'll buy 5 or 6 games each summer while I'm off from work. This year I've bought just WITP. I really don't see me getting anything else in the forseeable future. I wonder if Matrix has just destroyed the wargamming industry.

Given the time to play each turn and consider the possibilities this game could well keep me busy until Gary Grigsbys' next opus comes out. [8D]

You know? As much as I grumble about people that "lease" online games and what not ("Ever-crack" and others...), in an odd way this one is similar. Hows that? Well when you really think about it, barring a BARN BURNER of a release from some other company, I'm going to be playing this one for a VERY long time... Probably to the exclusion of other games. [8D] End result? I may be thanking Matrix for not only a FANTASTIC wargame, but a SERIOUS bit of cost saving! hehehe... [:D]

Heh. I've already cut way back on my play.

When Combat Mission came out, I played it to the exclusion of everything else. For an entire year. Then I got UV, and then CM:BB. I played UV almost to absolute death, and didn't put that much time into CM:BB. I gues I burn out hardcore on games. Thus I will not overplay WitP.

In a way though? That's the beauty of it. I have ZERO motivation to go scouting for new games. I'm forever thinking of various ways to play this one. Wondering what new stuff the mod'ers are up to and bs'ing in here. All of which I find eminently enjoyable. So like I said, I couldn't be happier. [8D]

Oh, I'll offer not argument there. I simply do not wish to tempt fate on the possibility of burnout.[:)]

Despite the poor AI and the fact that you feel like an accountant at time, I am an Engineer with an MBA ("more bad advice") so I do not dislike accountants. I will be playing this game for 5 years and will have difficulty playing any other game. I really like HTTR but I do not even remember how to play it. The only thing is I need breaks after 3 -4 hours.

Only game I can see myself breaking away for is the new Grand Theft Auto. But that will only be about 40-50 hours and it doesnt come out until mid October.

Heh, heh, you better be careful. Sometimes any intense interest in a game works to your disadvantage. I speak from my experience with BTR. You like the game so much, or at least it's potential, that a really stupid flaw which someone else is willing to tolerate just makes an absolute mockery of the game for you. It don't help this game either that it's going to go through numerous patches, much like so many other games, and that every patch will likely require restarting the campaign. Playing the first 3-6 months of the same game can get irritating over the course of a game you're expecting to have such a good time with.

I used to go game hunting about every 2 months and drop about 100 bucks, That all stopped when UV came out. If there wasn't any talk about the development of a game called WiTP that would probably would have been the last game I ever purchased. Instead I bought and played UV right up to the last day before the release of WiTP.

Now that I have WiTP in my little hands, looks like my game buying days are all over. Wife's happy about that one more money for her. With all the possibilites I don't think I could ever exhaust my game playing needs.

I really dare someone to try and top this game. And the support too now that you mention it.

I guess I might drop some coin if a game based on the same design as WiTP came out, but only during the American Civil War and only if it came from Matrix.

But I settle just to see the Med and/or N Atlantic campaigns from Gary and the boys. Then I might just have to take back some of the money the wife thinks she gained.

You could always play other games on a Playstation or an X-Box while waiting for turns to resolve. Then pause the PS game (or X-Box), plan your next move, set it to execute, and then go back to kicking the other teams butt. (Being from Ohio, I like playing Ohio State and kicking that blue teams butt from up North) [:D]
