How Cruel is that?

Gary Grigsby's World At War gives you the chance to really run a world war. History is yours to write and things may turn out differently. The Western Allies may be conquered by Germany, or Japan may defeat China. With you at the controls, leading the fates of nations and alliances. Take command in this dynamic turn-based game and test strategies that long-past generals and world leaders could only dream of. Now anything is possible in this new strategic offering from Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games.

How Cruel is that?

Post by Briar »

I'm reading the current issue of Compter Games, and there is the add for Gary Grigsby's World at War. I'm thinking, wow, Axis and Allies done right, Hearts of Iron lite! I love it, I need it, I must go buy this game. BUT LO! its not even done yet. In fact, there isn't even a tenative release date. Thats just cruel and unusual. At least put a little "In stores soon" sticker on the add. Don't make me find out that the game isn't ready. This causes frustration and anurisms.

welcome to the forums!

at least the ad got you to come to the right place and read about the game. i recommend reading through the AAR - PBEM Game 2 thread to get a good idea how the game plays.

Welcome,
This causes frustration and anurisms.

The "frustation" might get lower if you find out that you can still join the ongoing discussion here that pop before release.

Just think of it as Matrix's way of simulating the tension of WW2.

Good to see new faces here Samurai - and yes, DO spread the word... this game is IMO so much better than PC Axis and Allies, it would be shame for A&A fans to miss it. OTOH, it has lot to offer to old grogs on the other side of spectrum as well.

I know I sound like a "marketing drone" now, but I know how to be critical when needed. I really think this is one of the rare strategy/wargaming titles that "bridges" the differences between grognards and wargaming n00bs in an extremely elegant and enjoyable manner.

ya i can honestly say i've never been really tried alot of pcwargames(nothingoutsida rts and some older games like lordsof the realm or civ) because of my lack of knowledge and complexity...but since i know axis and allies like the back of my hand this game should be an excellent way to wean my self in, as well as my 4 friends im gonna make get this game so we can have 5 player matches...

kinda a noobish question about the game, how does the multiplayer actually work...is it all by email or does every one have to be on at the same time?

I am still trying to get Maurice to let me in the next play test group (hint hint).

The underdogs have third reich for download to pass the time (watch for spyware on their site). Playing PBEM games using ACTS (I recommend Paths of Glory and The Napoleonic War) is good too. Or, you can sit down with Gary's WITP. When you have mastered WITP, WAW will have already been out for a few years.
