Mogami v DadMan: The Wonder Years...
As in, I'm wondering how long it will take Mogami to pound me.
In a cruel twist of fate, Mogami has taken on the task of seeing how badly his Sons of Nippon can flog my Allied forces. As he has summarily trounced my IJN/IJA forces twice before in our Uncommon Valor days, this may prove refreshing.
Or not.
Our Setup:
Japanese Sub Doctrine: OFF
Allied Sub Doctrine: OFF
Player Defined Upgrades: OFF
Automatic Submarine Operations: OFF
December 7th Surprise: ON
Allied Damage Control: ON
Advanced Weather Effects: ON
Turn Cycle: 1 Day
Reinforcement: Very Variable +/- 60 Days
It won't matter much, as I'll tease, taunt, torture him, rob him of his precious carriers, and he'll knock the VP stuffing out of me anyway.

RE: Mogami v DadMan: The Wonder Years...
This should be interesting... Loved the AARs in UV, and now I've got another one here to look forward to... Too many AARs to track!
"The Paraguayan Air Force's request for spraying subsidies was not as Paraguayan as it were..."
RE: Mogami v DadMan: The Wonder Years...
Should be a good one.
Look forward to it.

In the Beginning...
7 Dec 41 and six IJN carriers slam Pearl Harbor, sink a BB and tear the hell out of 5 others, leaving 2 looking
around wondering, "what the...? Did you hear something?"
Aircraft on the island are pretty much torn up, and all IJN CVs get away clean.
Airstrike from Formosa trashes Clark Field, P.I.
No other landings or enemy ops of import noted, but transports escaping Naga, P.I. were caught by IJN heavy
surface units 60nm east of the city losing 2 freighters.
_____________________________
8 Dec 41 is a bit busier, IJN CVs are retreating to the NW, CA Portland of the Lexington TF is nearly torp'd by a sub
200nm ESE of Wake I.
3 USN cruisers are attacked by carrier based torpedo planes SSW of Davao, P.I. 2 are damaged, and the other beat off the
attackers. Intel figures the planes came from CVLs Ryujo and Zuiho operating between Davao and Menado. My
guess he's covering an assault to the eastern coast of Borneo and looking to turn my escaping Manila ships into a chumline.
Davao is under siege. Landings are spotted at Legaspi, P.I.
An assault TF is spotted 60nm E of Alor Star on the Maylay Peninsula.
I'm all goose pimply scared...

RE: In the Beginning...
Hi, I too missed playing Dadman. I had expected to be Allies in our first real WITP PBEM but when I posted I had a turn 1 ready for Japan Dadman pounced on it like a hungry jackal. Turn 1 has no landings that do not occur if you use the historic turn 1. (But I cancel/postpone several that actually took place)
The SRA is the primary target. There are no adventures planned for phase 1. The object of the plan is to finish phase 1 well in advance of history and that is the means of gaining further Japanese advantage. Instead of running wild in Central/South Pacific from the start and weaking operations in SRA I concentrate on SRA and then move..............
I hate surprises.

And I'm full of them... or it.ORIGINAL: Mogami
I hate surprises.
Then after they work, I ruin them.
It's kinda like telling the same joke one too many times: it's just not funny anymore; and then someone adds a punchline that insults you right back.
I'm kinda regretting that I didn't play Japan this time. Maybe we'll let this get down the road a piece and start another game on opposite sides.
RE: In the Beginning...
Can't see using the whole KB too early in the SRA.
There is also a benefit to be derived by probing the Allies at several points to keep them guessing, catching "strays", and making him tentative about pushing too much to the South Pacific too early.
Got to keep the Allies uncertain IMHO. Can't give too much away, although I do not relish the task Dadman has in front of him.[:D]

RE: In the Beginning...
Hi, If the Japanese player commits the KB to Operations outside the SRA (or Operations not effecting SRA as I believe a sortie into Indian Ocean is in support of SRA Operations)
Then the fear of the sudden appearence of IJN CV is removed. (The Allied player will know where KB is at and conduct his operations in areas beyond the reach of IJN CV)
So KB's where abouts will not be broadcast by conducting operations in such a manner as to allow the Allies to know it's location. KB will support Operations. I announced prior to the start that no Japanese landing will ever occur without air support and escorts. Carriers can provide this air support. So I can't jump on emepty bases that I know are empty unless I first arrange air cover.

RE: In the Beginning...
9DEC41:
Japanese I-173 attacks DD Balch of Enterprise TF at 86,64 Near Wake Is.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese landing at Kuantan:
Allied Sub KXIII attacks Japanese AK Atago Maru near Kuantan at 24,47, Torpedo hits 1
Allied Sub KXIII attacks Japanese AK Sakura Maru near Kuantan at 24,47, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
Allied Day Air attack on Japanese Transport TF, near Kuantan at 24,47, AK Sado Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
Japanese aircraft on CAP:
A6M2 Zero x 5
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese B5N Kate Day Air attack on CA Houston TF, near Menado at 39,67, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage (CA Houston sinks {pisser}).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Landing at Legaspi:
Allied Sub S-39 attack AP Tasmania Maru near Legaspi at 44,55, Torpedo hits 1 (a follow up of an earlier failed attack)
Japanese Shock attack at Legaspi CAPTURES Legaspi base !!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Shock attack at Davao CAPTURES Davao base !!!
Defeated Allied Units Retreating!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Bombardment attack Hong Kong (The siege of Hong Kong has begun).
Mogami's First Mobile Force (his carriers) is running dark and quiet. I cannot assume they have fled the scene, as a change of course by them can not be ruled out. All he needs to do is refuel from his tanker train, and set off to trap my carriers near Wake. I'm not giving anything away telling that they are in the vicinity; three sub attacks have told him I'm waiting to pound any invasion TF he may see fit to dispatch. Search planes from Wake should discover his approach in enough time to move the carriers out of harm's way. The risk is that he approaches from just the right direction, and my carriers will be caught.
I have considered running my carriers toward the Philipines, but fuel and enemy air activity precluded that. Believe me, I considered that and was SORELY tempted. I must refrain from rash movements.

RE: In the Beginning...
Hi, If you want to move your CV to Philippines I will give them save passage there.
But don't you want to get some newer fighters (and more pilots ) first?
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

I fear those torpecker slinging B5N Kates though...

I like that "If KB should come to Wake" Do you think that knowing where USN CV are located I would refuse to come? Get you gone before I arrive.
CVL Zuhio has already upgraded to A6M2
He feels restless, he feels blue,
He feels lonely and in grief,
He feels ev'ry kind of feelin',
But the feelin' of relief
He feels hungry as the wolf felt
When he met Red Hiding-hood
What don't he feel?
He don't feel good!

Japanese forces CAPTURE Aparri base !!!

Japanese Ground Assault reduces Hong Kong fortifications
IJN First Mobile Force is now whereabouts unknown. Nagumo was spotted about 150nm NNE of Midway yesterday, but is now beyond the range of search craft.
The Ryujo/Zuiho TF has pulled back away from Kendari, leaving the Haruna/Kongo TF to deny the base to me. I have had to run pell-mell to get the hell out of range of B5N Kates and 14" rifles. I made a small boo-boo that I hope isn't seen until the danger is passed, but I'll have to take my lumps as they come.
My guess is that the First Mobile Force will put into port, replenish stores and airgroups, then move to support ops in the DEI/NEI area. Not much I can do but to extract as high a price a possible for what he must dearly win.

Siege of Hong Kong ends with Japanese forces CAPTURE. More than 15,000 Allied men are killed or captured…

Japanese forces CAPTURE unoccupied city of Naga, P.I.
The Ryujo/Zuiho TF is headed either to a fueling rendezvous or back to Palau. That TF has some incredible luck. I've been attacking it for about 5 days without a single hit.
The BB/CA TF that hit Jolo, has also retreated. Most of my ships are out of Manila. Mogami already knows that I’ve pulled back to the Clark/Manila/Bataan area.
Nells have set up shop at Kuantan near Singapore, effectively isolating it. I have a plan for them though…
The First Mobile Force was spotted 240nm WNW of Midway still retiring. My own carriers are in hiding, but will soon be heard from again…

RE: In the Beginning...
Hi, Dadman always catches me like that because I never figure him to take such risks. The Japanese bombers have been operating for several days. I considered Legaspi some what safe and detailed the surface force to other duties.
