A sloooow turn.. Probably the slowest to date yet. The IJN lost 3 ships due to flooding from previous damage - MSW, PC & AP from the US CV attack near Truk. Rob's ASW efforts also paid off by sinking one of my subs near PH. In return my subs in Burma caught a RN MSW and sent her to the bottom fast and furiously (4 torps reported hit).

Various air raids in china and Malaya continue with more and more allies succumbing to the japanese might. On the land my men secured Emirau Island as my expansion into the South Pacific continues - especially now that its safer since Rob pulled his CVs back after only a single day of bombing Truk harbor...

Damage at Truk is all repaired (base damage that is), but roughly 10 ships took hits from allied 1000 pounders and are in various states of disrepair.. The only bright side is that they are all non-combat ships - mostly support ships like AVs and MLs... Several of the ships are already sailing home for repairs while others are waiting for Truk's repair ability to help repair all the flooding and fire damage they have - so they can sail home nice and safe. As Rob's CVs retreat my bombers at Truk failed to attack.... again... Not sure what the problem is, but if he's spotted again and not attacked, some leaders are being changed for sure...

The amazing Dutch Do-24k search planes score another hit on my merchies around Borneo. These planes dodge low flying (and high flying) CAP to drop their payload on target. I have damaged a couple of them with flak, but not a single kill by CAP... I've killed PBYs and such, but no Do-24s.. Oh well hopefully the designers will take a look at the code for this and tweak it a bit... I have not seen one search plane attack on a TF at sea - all have been at port with CAP... Oh well...

My plans are going along as scheduled except for in china. Rob is putting up a major fight this time for anything in china - he has his units all split up and everywhere... They are not that strong, but I'm having to fight for every hex I want to move through. Not a problem in respect to losses, but in time...

At Yunan Rob showed up with a unit or two out of the blue.. Didn't see them nearby.. Not sure how my airlifted men will handle a major attack, but I'm sure we're about to find out.. Every day they hold, my position there is stronger... and less supplies for china.. If my men can hold for a week - I will keep the base as reinforcements have been moving up the trails to Yunan for a while now..

Nothing else to say... enjoy..

25 December - Great Christmas for Japan

Post by Xargun »

Well who says the Japanese don't celebrate Christmas ?? They will be from now on.... Santa brought a nice present to the Japanese Navy.... Remember those 2 US CVs that raided Truk a couple days ago and wrecked havoc on a bunch of merchies and aux ships ?? Well my CVs racing from Kwajelein at full speed finally caught up with them and said hi... It was wonderful... Not as great as it could have been.. but still wondferful..

I forgot to set my TF react range (it was at 0), so when Rob moved his CVs around behind Rabaul he ended up exactly 5 hexes away from my CVs... I launched two strikes and he launched none due to the range.... My first wave smashed through his mixed CAP of Wildcats and Buffalos (reportedly killing 50 fighters - although only 30-some were actually there - so I mauled them...). My Vals and Kates were at max range so they only carried 250 kg bombs, but they managed to worm their way through the heavy AA and land 10 bombs on Enterprise and 5 on Lexington. The next strike was about 1/3 of the size of the first, but managed to claim 12 fighters killed (out of 7 present) and land another 4 bombs on the Enterprise and 4 on the Lexington.. Both CVs were moving slow and burning when my second wave found them... The CVs are a looong way from any real repair yards and even if they make it to a safe haven I have won a major victory this turn as I have hurt his 2 remaining CVs...

The only other US CV is the Saratoga, but I found and mauled it last turn and Rob left it behind - racing its escorts northward away from my CVs.. This turn was pitiful, as I launched two half-hearted attacks against the Saratoga.. I discovered the problem and corrected it for this turn, so I should finish her off...

This will leave Rob with no US CVs servicable for a while making me wonder if I should take Midway and push further East towards Hawaii, since Rob has no real way of stopping me.... I will think about it... Smashing Midway would be a nice step and score some good points, as I'm sure Rob has a bunch of planes there as well as several land units...

Elsewhere in the war, the resurrection of the IJN baby CV TF has scored massive results once more - with a little help from some Kendari based bombers... The baby CV TF located and attacked 2 enemy merchie TFs near Kopang sinking a total of 4 AKs, 2 APs and 2 TKs - a good show..

My bombers in Burma said hi to a lone PG patrolling near Akyab and sunk her with a torpedo hit.

My men on the ground captured Pomala (Sulewesi) this turn against no opposition.

Overall this was a great turn.. Now if only I can finish off the 3 crippled US CVs it will rock. Problem is that all 3 CVs are within range of land bases, so the air units will live (at least the bomber groups - fighters are pretty mauled) to fight on... But hopefully my planes can sink their mobile homes... Would be great to add 3 CVs to my tally of 4 sunken BBs.... But we will see..

I landed at Kuching and the CD guns there hit back pretty hard, peppering my APs good bu luckily not really hurting the escorts.. My escorts return fire was great - killed about 1/3 of my own losses.

At Yunan Rob Shock attacked with his troops there and pushed my defending units out of the base. So Rob has recaptured the supply hub at Yunan, but my units are sitting on the road to the east, blocking him from distributing those supplies... So its not all bad..

Here's the results....

Well done , you have achieved the dream of all japanese players, a ocean where you can go where you want![&o][&o][&o][&o][&o][&o]
Thought about the effect just 1 of your carriers( on rotation with another) could have on the supply lines between the USA coast and pearl, or anywhere for that matter.[:D]
Hit his supply lines, one carrier will do it, go berserk about pago pago, the shipping must be dense, targets for the taking.
He's thrown away his only weapon you feared
Attack, attack, attack!

Hit him high, hit him low, give the yank the old heave ho!
Big seas, Fast ships, life tastes better with salt

For the Allied player.

Sucker him in,

nail his flattops with anything that'll float or fly,

and then unleash...the battleships.

Well, that's better than running and hiding til the Essex's arrive.

Good for you Xargun. Having squandered his CVs, Rob is in a major bucket of caca. This should be painful to watch....[X(] Brutal that it's not even 42 yet and Rob could not resist the temptation to go on the offensive. How ya feelin' Rob? Early retirement is gonna be a bitch.[:D]

Can he keep from bombarding things and husband his forces? That's the question. [8D]

Well Xargun has no excuse for not winning now..........with all of the USN's CVs out of action he should now go on the rampage. We shall see how effectively Xargun uses this turn of events.

He has what, Hornet and Wasp left? Say hello to the massive influx of Japanese tourists in OZ and Oceania. Sea lanes will be easily cut now. Gonna be very interesting to see what Xargun does. Starve Hawaii? Starve all the islands? Hmmm...

Don't go an jinx me now guys.. I have his 3 CVs hurt (well Saratoga should be crippled) but not sunk - kinda like counting the chickens before they hatch.. I should know in the next turn or two if I can run rampant or not.. I just have a bad feeling his CVs will get away somehow... I keep hoping its not true, but you never know...

By the way... I may have failed to mention that during the first exchange with the Saratoga my CVs took some beating as well.. Nothing compared to his - no torps hit me, only bombs - but enough to require some yard time.. Not sure on the CVs attacking south of Truk - but I'm sure they can use some yard time to fix some basic needs...

IF and its a big IF I bag all 3 CVs, I will need a couple days just to recoup the losses in my CV air groups.. Especially attacking the 2 enemy CVs - lost a lot of planes in those battles... I have enough planes to finish them off - If I catch them - but then I will certainly need more replacements - luckily I have 100+ replacements of Vals and Kates in my pool waiting for such an opportunity.. But lost pilots will be hard to replace...

As for what I will do, I haven't thought too much on it - am waiting to determine if I have a free ride - sink all 3 - or some sort of limited time offer - cripple them and force them to port for repairs... The main problem is that either way, I really don't have the force to take much advantage of this - not enough land forces... I may be able to grab Noumea or something like that, but nothing major - all my divisions are in battle on the mainland or in the PI.. Oh well.. My CVs (once restocked) can and will wreck havoc on the seas and Oz will most likely be on its own for 6 months or so until Rob has a mobile attack force available...

Someone mention Rob should use his BBs... Uhmm.. what BBs ? I have sunk 4 at PH I believe and crippled the rest (I hope). That leaves him with 1 BB from the west coast and a couple RN BBs.... Sure he gets a few more in Jan/Feb, but what match are BBs against IJN torps ? If I lose 30 Nells to sink 1 BB its definately worth it and easier for me to replace than that BB is.. Plus, a BB is 200 points... Does he really want to give me more points by bringing BBs into LBA range ? What if my CVs catch his BBs at sea.. They would be meat - sure I'd lose a bunch of Kates, but I'd sink a lot of ships too...

Either way the CVs turn out Rob will be much more defensive now and will not be able to respond very well to any attacks of mine - at least not between Oz and the US... The RN still has the bulk of its strength.. If I can now find and sink the POW and Repulse...

Thats the price you have to pay if you are too aggressive in 1941 or early 1942 as allied pplayer.
makes me wonder why ppl sent in CV's to Truk in 1941 and not knowing where the enemy KB is....[8|]

continue this AAR, it will be funny to read through 1942 [:D]

(AP Washington)

In a stunning event President Roosevelt addressed the nation on all the major radio networks this evening.

"Due to the sudden and swift destruction of American naval assets throughout the Pacific I have ordered our armed forces to withdraw to points east of the Hawaiian Islands and protect the west coast from Japanese agression. Our Allies against the Xargunite would-be dynasty New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines and the United Kingdom must see to their own defense without the help of America. It is with heavy heart I do this, but we must assure that no Japanese soldier ever reaches the 48 states of this union. "

World-wide reaction is one of disbelief and recrimination. Australia has demanded that Britain return to her her combat divisions. New Zealand is rumored to of sent a delegation to meet with the Xargunites, thought there is no confirmation of this. The United Kingdom for her part stopped short of condeming the America defending her own backyard first.

"Our allies remain committed to the cause of freedom, first they must secure their frontiers, then they will show the world what Americans are made of."

In other news, the American war department sacked CINCPAC Admiral Kimmel today, blaming him for an "overaggresive attitude in his attempt to make up for his failure at Pearl Harbor." The reins of the remaining Pacific Fleet have been turned over to Admiral Chester Nimitz.

Coupled with this announcement, Roosevelt addresses Congress that he will need at least four packets of Instant Essex Class Carrier Crystals *TM immediately! Various other flavours such as Cleveland and Baltimore Class Cruiser Crystals *TM are ordered on the side. Thank Gawd for MacDonalds and the advent of fast fleet units.[;)]

Thats the only problem I have with catching his CVs....

1. He will now get newer, faster, better CVs.... Nothing I can take will make up for the fact that the new versions of these CVs will be better...

2. I'm still broiled in the fight for Malaya and PI with all of my divisions (and other large units) in these fights or engaged in the taking of Borneo and Suluwesi. I have nothing to spare to take anything worth taking... Like New Zealand or parts of OZ... If I sink those CVs I will have to consult the magic book of arrivals and see when he will get replacements and see if I can either finish the PI or Malaya faster, or spare a unit or two for some South Pacific operations... If I could have waited a month, it would be much different...

And don't remind me about all the extra ships he'll get.. Good thing is so far I haven't really sunk that many cruisers... Lots of damage, but I think I've only sunk 3 and all Dutch or Oz...

Anxiously awaiting the turn from Rob...
