Here is what I mean by "multiplayer support"

Post by Diabolico »

Please take a look at this pic. This is the standard multiplayer menu for a TCP/IP connection. The player has either the possibility of joining a game server, hosting a game (clicking over new) or even joining another player that is hosting a game.
This is how it is done in the game "Fighters Anthology", from Jane's/lectronic Arts, in it's time, the "mother of all flightsims", still flown today.

I am under the impression that in starshatter two players connect only via a dedicated server (hosted by a third party or by one of the players). In fact, there is no direct IP possibility. Tha is very sad for a 50 $ game.
Matrix games please do something quickly!!! [:-]

... and here is what happens when you click over the options tab. As you see, you can enter the host's IP and that is all you have to do, since when you click ok you will go back to the previous screen and you just have to click over "join" in order to launch a game, as the host's callsign will appear on the games slots, as well as the existing players's callsigns. [&o] Wonderfull how simple it is... [:D]

um as far as I know..

ss works better

all that happens is you host a game, you click host, and ANYBODY ANYWHERE who loads up the multiplayer screen will see that game, you dont need to know ip addresses or any of that junk as far as I know

you dont need dedicated servers to play thats just for a 24/7 persistant mission server

Yes, but the problem is that there isn't even a single server online at this moment.
As of now there isn't any ss server 24-24, 7-7 [:(]
So you are stuck with direct IP connections if you are to fly multiplayer game at all!!!
[:@] Damn!!! That buggs me!

Yeah but how do I set it up????

Post by Diabolico »

How do I set up a persistent mission server, or whatever you call it?[:@]
I have read the manual several times and I can't figure it out!
I am not that dumb! If I have this problem lots of people may have it as well.
Finding opponents is not a problem. I can always find at least one on my time fuse at about the times I am online...
The problem is that I and a few players are trying (without success) to just host and join, without success.
There is to much hassle for the player who is unfamiliar with multiplayer protocs such as game ports and admin ports - what the hel is that and where do you get the info??? [:@]
I don't find it simple at all nor do the people who have acquired it recently and are trying to play it with me...
I only want the opportunity to fly it with others, I am not saying that the game is lousy, that this and that are missing... no, starshatter is a great game! ... eyt it will be only worth the money I have paid for it the day I can cnnect to at least another player without hassle... [8D]
