Disbanded B-17 Squadrons

Post by Desertmole »

I am playing against the AI. A few months ago, I disbanded six or seven B-17 squadrons. At the time, all my B-17 squadrons had been depleted down to 2-3 planes per, and even with 99 morale and no fatigue, they were not flying missions (I'm guessing - if the squadron falls below a certain number of aircraft, they don't pass the % muster to fly missions). [:(]

They were all returned to my ORBAT recently, with no planes and no pilots. Now, as the pool releases replacement planes, they each suck one up, so I now have several 1 plane squadrons and I am not getting replacements in my squadrons in combat. [:@]

The question - do I just put up with them or do I disband them again or just leave them alone? All they seem to do is suck up assets (supply, support and airplanes).[&:]
I only wish I had you, the gentlemen of the pen, exposed for once to a smart skirmishing fire...

Disband them again - maybe leave one or two of them - and make sure you use B17 only for Naval or ASW search mission to conserve them for future use and to train up the crew . They'll need high morale and experience to survive combats with jap fighters and to have less OP-losses at high-range missions .
Units with the lowest numbers of planes get replacement planes first .
