ALLIED OFFENSIVE!-June 42
The Plutocratic Western Powers launched today the operation "SMARONATION".
Altough Japanese Secret Services knew that an offensive operation was scheldued, nobody in the highest ranks in Tokyo tought it would have been something different from a Naval counteroffensive.
..............What a MISTAKE!
The Capitalist took Japanese Army off guard!
They waited for some good weather in Asia and South Pacific and when these conditions became reality, they launched a MASSIVE Air operation!
They massed 72 p-40Es ( the AVG ) and 80 Blenheims at Kungchan and start to bomb the two main bases held by japan in north of China ( Sian and Yenen). The AVG had an easy day in repulsing the unescorted Helens( 13 shot down with their 80 exp crews[:(]).
At the same time Rangoon, Mouleim,Manaly and Pagan were hit by a HUGE number of bombers with finding only a soft opposition at Mouleim.
Bulla (south of Ambonia)was hit during the night.
At Port Moresby 200 B-17s, flying too high for the A6M2s placed there on CAP, managed to score some hit on the airfields of the big base.
Gili gili was scrumbled by more 40 fortresses finding no opposition.
At the same time a great number of Dakotas managed to paradrop a lot of supplies to the Chunking sieged garrison.
At Tokyo the news of this threat was welcomed with incredulity and surprise.
It has been ordered to move back in Indochina the 2 Helen daitais that used to operate in the north of China.
Some Oscars were put on CAP over Sian, even if everybody at Tokyo knows that they can do nothing against the flying Tigers.
20 A6M3s were moved to PM trying to intercept the B-17s on high altitudes.
50 zeros were put at Tavoy. They will form the first new line of defences in Burma. The idea is to mass them in one base and LRCAP in mass only one base at time, trying to inflict the as much damage as possible to the RAF bombers
This new evolution of warfare will surely create new problems for the Empire. Sian and Yenen are 2 very important industrial centers and the MuST be defended. The main problem is that unitl we won't have any Tonies, the zero is the only fighter that can do something against P-40 and RAF bombers...and i have no zeros to put in China at the moment.
...But the main plan won't change. SHO 1 ( Nanoumea Atoll) and SHO 2 ( Wake Island ) will keep on going and remained scheldued for the end of June..

RE: ALLIED OFFENSIVE!-June 42
This so called op. SMARONATION is really showing the weakness of the japanese warfare preparation. PM had to be evacuated again because there's o way to keep its AF open with those monsters flying so high.
In China the P-40s smashed my poor oscars that tried to defend Sian.
The same old story in Burma where Mandalay AF is officially closed.
At Chungking my army was repulsed by a stiff chinese resistance.
Some Msw at lunga got clobbered by B-17s from Lungaville.
everywhere it's a pain.
Japan is now in serious problems.
A DDs TF west of Sumatra was hit by my betties an Nells from Palembang, but british AA manage to shot down 5 of my bombers and only one DD ws hit and sunk.
Really a bad day

ALLIED AIR POWER!
Two more days of passion...and the worst is yet to come.
In China my experienced oscar pilots have been decimated by the AVG trying to defend Sian and Yenen. They didn't do anything else than dying....Sian and Yene have been heavily damaged.
Now Akyab is level 5 AF...from there he can ROAM ALL OVER INDOCHINA....Now i'm in big big trouble. What can i do????????????????????????????????????
The whole area of PM,Gili Gili,Lunga and Tulagi had to be evacuated.
Japan is already on a defensive strategic position.
Surely i have to forget all the res.,oil and HI in the whole area of Burma,Vietnam and Indochina. Not to say in china where, if i do not find a clue, i will have all my industries destroyed.
WHAT A MESS
WHAT A BAD SUMMER

Japanese forces CAPTURE Russell Islands base !!!

The Emperor holds his breath
June 42 is probably the worst month in japanese history.
Everywhere around our defensive perimeter the enemy has fortified his positions and is building up his forces for the next step of his advance.
Baker Island is now a fortress.
Timor seems to be strongly defended.
Our Secret Service tells that Wake and Nanoume Atoll have recieved a lot of reinforcements in the last week.
In Asia allied bombers threaten all my bases, from Bankok to Hanoi.
The allies seem to have developed a new dog fight tactic: our brave zero pilots find every day a tougher opposition.
Gili Gili, Lunga, Lae, Port Moresby....all these strongholds of my southern perimeter cannot be defended from the destructive power of the american B-17s
Our S.service says that DEI can be the next probable objective of allies' next bombing capaign: our oil is at Risk!
Operations SHO1 and SHO2 remain on scheldue, but the HQ of the combined fleet shows some doubts about them.

From a genera point of view it is clear that Japan has already reached his max extension. probably some more small conquests are possible but strategically useless. My fleet is still intact , altough Shokaku Kongo and Haruna needs some R&R, and with some difficulties i managed to replenish my carrier air groups. The problem, for the moment , is simply strategical. I have secured the area around Rabaul, but Tarawa is in deep danger being sourronded by Nanomea Atoll ( AF 3) and Baker Island ( AF 1 but growing fast ), which have been strongly fortified in the last weeks. Timor rapresents another big problem: from there he can bomb many of my resources/oil centers in DEI and force me to stop the flow of res/oil to Japan. It can still be conquered i guess, but i'm pretty sure that he has planned for this option and hordes of bombers and fighters are waiting for me in Nortern Oz.
In China the late accumulated at Chungking has costed me the inability to get to the north of China, from where now he's bombing like a mad horse my 2 HI centers of Yenen and Sian.
But the main problem remains India and Burma. I cannot stop his bombing raids for the moment and now that Akyab reached level 5 AF everything between Bankok and Hanoi is in danger. even Chungking, if i ever can take it, when will be mine will be a possible target for his 4E bombers.
One option could be to use my Burma army to try to take Akyab. But, considering that the land access to Akyab is by trails and without any air cover or naval bombardment i'm pretty sure that it cannot be done ( consider that at Akyab there are 30,000 british troops). The other option could be to shift, once Chunking will be mine, some of the chinese troops to Burma and try an attempt to force his positions there...but again it will take years to get there and by that time my HI and resources in the area will be completely destroyed.
So, what to do? the danger is to see in few months the allies rolling all over the skies of Burma-indochina and Malaya and of DEI, from their bases at Timor and Akyab. Any suggestions???
The two operations scheldued ( SHO 1 and SHO 2 - invasions of Nanoumea and Wake ) are intended to be manily defensive operations. These two allied bases are spears in my perimeter and from there ( especially from Wake) they can threaten my routes fro/to the south pacific. I do not know if it's wise to keep playing with destiny in this way. If my fleet or my invasion forces will suffer any great damage i will be in damned deep trouble.
So, better to leave Wake and Nanomea atoll alone and concentrate on Timor( which, BTW , will be undefendable even if conquered due to the proximity with Oz airfields)? Or better to secure some more bases in the pacific and leave the rest of the perimeter to its sad fate?

RE: Summer considerations
Two more days of action.
The 8th of June has been very quite. For "quite" i mean tons and tons of allied bombs over my bases from south pacific to Burma.
Nothing new.
I decided to opt for a little revenge.
I placed 170 planes at Rangoon. 2 Sally sentais,2 Lily sentais, 3 zeros Daitais and 1 Oscar Sentai. the order was to bomb Akyab and make him feel that place unsecure.
the Destiny this time was a bit sweet with me. He directed some light bombers over rangoon and my Zeros managed to shoot down 22 of them in 2 different waves without any loss on my side. Then my bombers striked back and destroyed a total of 11 planes on the ground. Not a bad day. I then moved back all my bombers an left my zeros to defend the place for the next day.
As i thought he started his first bombing campaign in the DEI. Tarakan was the objective. Nothing more than some holes on the AF but i expect a growing pressure in this area. The point is that i do not have any experienced zero group left, so i moved there 23 average exp zeros ( 62 ). I hope i can train them a bit directly on the battlefield. Cannot do more for the moment....I NEED THOSE TONIESSSSSS
Speaking about tonies, today i reached 100 rd points...i hope i can get them in July instead of August....I hope......i hope...

RE: Summer considerations
it's time for planning the last japanese offensive operation in the south-central Pacific theatre.
As said before it will be a twin operation, codenames are SHO 1 and SHO 2.
These two operations are scheldued for the 17th of June. Starting base: Truk.
The objectives of this mission are to invade and conquer allied bases at Nanoumea Atoll and Wake Island in order to expand my defensive perimeter and delay the allied advance in the pacific.
SHO 1 ( Obj. Nanoumea Atoll) will involve the following units:
Invasion Force
17th Army (LGEN. Yakatuke )
35th Bde.
South Sea Detachment
Kure 5th SNLF
Kure 3rd SNLF
7th tank regiment
2 heavy artillery units
1 Engeneers Regiment
Second Carrier Striking Force:
CAR Div. 4
CV Akagi (72)
CVL Ryujo (48)
CVE Hosho (11)
a/c approx: 120
CAR Div. 5
CV Hiryu (63)
CVL Soho (30)
CVE Taiyo (30)
a/c approx: 110
Support force:
3rd BB Div.
Mutsu
Kirishima
Hiei
Kongo
5th and 7th Cruiser Div:
still to be decided in details, but there shuld be:
7 CAs
6 CLs
Various DD Divisions for a total number of 35 DDs
SHO 2 (Obj. Wake Island) will involve the followings:
Invasion force:
14th Army ( GEN. Kawabe )
38th Division
48th Division
65th Bde
46th Naval G. Unit
Yokasuka 6th SNLF
4th Tank Rgt.
4 Heavy Arty units
2 Engeneers Rgts.
First Carrier Striking Force:
1st CAR Div.
Shokaku (72)
Kaga (72)
Zuiho (30)
a/c approx. : 150
2nd CAR Div.
Soryu (63)
Junyo ( 53)
Hiyo (53)
a/c approx. : 145
Support Force:
1st BB Div.
Yamato
Hyuga
Ise
2nd BB Div.
Fuso
Yamashiro
Nagato
1st , 3rd , 4th Cruiser Divs. ..to be decided
10 CAs
10 CLs
Various Destroyer Divisions for a total of 50 DDs
340 APs/AKs/TKs and various Aux vassels will be involved in the two operations
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The plan is to pop up in the waters around Nanoumea between the 27th and 28th of June.
His Catalinas should spot a considerable force approaching, including BBs and CVs. The idea is to make him believe that the main effort will be directed here against Nanoumea. He MUST think that the whole KB ( = death Start) is committed, so that he should not dare to risk his 3 CVs. I expect a stiff air opposition here. Probably some wilcats and P-40s and for sure some Dive Bombers. I won't provide any port/AF attack but a strong CAP over my invasion force. The BBs will bomb the place first, as usual, then the MSWs will open the way and the following day the landings will start.
There should be at least a US. Army regiment and probably some CD units. It won't be easy. From Tarawa 50 Betties and 20 zeros will provide some air support. Two Emilies chutais at Tarawa will be my ears and eyes in the area.
The 56th Division will stay in reserve at Kwalajein in case of need.
4 Days after the first landing at Nanoumea, my main force will leave the waters of Kwalajein and will show itself approaching Wake Island. The plan will be the same. Naval Bombardments first, then minesweeping activities and so the landings.
No Air bombing if not strictly necessary: the Kido Butai will stay in a defensive position( in fact i will change a bit the composition of the carrier air groups, leaving at home some Vals daitais and embarking some more Zeros).
At Kwalajeing 50 Betties and Nells and 40 zeros will operate as land based air cover.
These two operations MUST be concluded by the 2nd week of July.
More details in the next few days.....
Any thoughts?

RE: Summer considerations
You have really low losses in transports.
What is the reason to divide your ships between two operations at the same time ? I would prefer to have all my CVs and surface TF escort one invasion, then the other, just refueling between the two.
Timor would be an easier target (too late now probably) because :
_ it's not an atoll so you can wait to attack to have all your troops on the beach
_ you can unload on three different spots
_ you have more bases around to base supporting planes
_ you have bigger ports nearby to save damaged planes
Of course invading troops would then be bombed to death but better then than Borneo and Java oilfields.
Did you try to shut Akyab down with BBs ? The place is probably full of mines but if escorts are ordered to not bombard, it seems to me that bombard TF suffer less from minefields as they don't get close of the base.
I would send submarines in the area, just to try to kill MLs respleneshing the minefield.
I would also take 2000 assault points from Chungking and send them to Mandalay via Yunan. It will take a month and then another to bring them to Akyab but should be enough to take the base via the inland road. And why bother to take Chungking if B-17 wreck what will remain of the city just after ? You don't need the points right now but in 6 months. Take Akyab first.
My own Japanese strategy in WITP is:
phase 1: secure oil and ressources first while doing as much damage as possible to Allied forces
phase 2: hit Allied forces where I can deal them more damaged than they can do to me
phase 3: slow the Allied advance
Your operations Sho 1 and Sho 2 are in category 2 or maybe 3. And I don't think phase 1 is finished.

First: Thank you VERY MUCH AmiralLaurent for your tips ( and for reading my AAR[:'(]).
your considerations are surely pertinent and useful. I have to say that i'm still in deep doubts about my overall strategy.
Akyab has been bombed with BBs 2 months ago and remained closed for ages...but then the allies brought in so much Air Power to descourage any naval activity in the Bay of Bengal. there are almost 600 allied planes between Dacca,D.Harbour,Chandupur,Akyab and all those nasty bases just on the border of burma. My BBs would be punded like anything else if they dared to enter in the Bay. The only way would be to commit some LRCAP with zeros, but Rangoon,Tavoy,Reaghen and Mouleim are all in range of his medium bombers....I have 2000 Assault points at Rangoon waiting to be sent to Akyab and some more Divisions should be released from China ( something ike 2500 Assault points ) within 2 weeks.i need Chungking to close the chapter about War in China...i know it's damned risky, but at the moment i think it's too late to halt the Chungking affair....all the efforts made for it will be wasted....
You're right considering SHO 1 and 2 in the 2nd and 3rd categories, but Wake ( which now became AF4 ) is a threat to the Mariannas....from there he can control my supply routes for the south pacific and can bomb Marcus,Saipan,Guam etc etc.... I cannot allow this. Nanoumea is probably something not really needed...he can obtain the same results( closing Tarawa AF and isolating the garrison) using Baker.....it would be just a delay in his plans....and i'm risking a "Midway replay" dividing my forces.......yes, that's probably true....mmmm.....i will think about it...i still have some days to take a final decision.....mmmm....so if i only went for wake, i could plan the Timor invasion for July instead of August.....yes, that's something i have to take into consideration.....
Thanks a lot, really![;)]
RE: Summer considerations
Well, it looks like you have sufficient forces to take those two islands in Sho 1&2. Just make sure you put some MSW ships together with invasiona APs, to sweep mines as they go near the island, and to provide ASW if needed.
You should finish those operations ASAP and fokus on Timor. You will need all your CVs and BBs to take it, and several divisions and eng units together with base forces, AV regiments and 2 air HQs, for Koepand and Lautern each. Good news is that most of his bomber force is focused in Burma and around PM, so resistance should not be too heavy.
Your opponent will have a choice: Either to continue his operations in Burma and around PM and defend Timor with what he currently has at hand, or to bring some reinforcements from those other fields of operations.
When goin for Timor make sure you stay out of torpedo bomber range (which is 4 for most of allied planes in this time period) and do some heavy BB bombardment to shut down Koepand and Lautern airfields. Bombers from Oz will then not be able to hurm you that much, as they will be carring bombs, and will fly unescorted (except for bombers from Darwin flying mission over Lautern, which might have escorts).
As for Burma, I would bring most of the units back to Rangoon, and provide CAP there with at least 3 A6M2 Daitais. Rangoon is temperate zone, so your units will rest more quickly. After you finish Timor operation you can decide what to do with Akyab. For now just set all the units in the area to plan for Akyab, you might need that in the near future.

RE: Summer considerations
You're welcome. I have little will to work this Friday so like better reading AARs....
Taking Wake is a good idea... if you can do it. I doubt he will try to resist with his CVs if KB is around and planes can be based only on Wake so are in danger of being lost.
My own strategy would be to :
1) raid Namoela/Baker with KB, trying to hit shipping that may be there and deplete air units attacking yours, while convoys are sailing to Wake
2) take Wake, with KB being in this area. Send a decoy convoy towards and Namoela and Baker (10 empty transports with escort).
I would use all the troops you list in Wake. At least land the 3 Eng Rgts (and more if you have them). And keep the Sho 1 land force available as a sea reserve in case two divisions hold Wake.
If you have some BB/CAs available in SE Asia, you may be unable to shut down Akyab by naval bombing but at least threaten it. Send your surface TF 4 or 5 hexes of Akyab, SW of it. Your opponent may retire his heavy bombers at least some days.
I usually base small units (recon or floatplanes) in every base, so my opponent can't know where reinforcements arrive. So the base where my LRCAP is based is not obvious.
Another trick. Base Navy bombers at around 15 hexes (max B-17 range) of Akyab and start night bombing of the airfield. Defend the airfield with hundred of Army fighters (even Kates) flying 90% CAP. If Allied heavy bombers launch an attack against your airfield, they will suffer. Nates won't be able to shot them down but damaged heavy bombers may crash during the return to base in big numbers. Japanese bases will probably be heavier than Allied ones but trading two Nates for a B-17 is always a good deal.

RE: Summer considerations
Thanks guys for your support! it's a pleasure to share strategies with other people[;)]
First of all: It's impossible to keep Rangoon AFs open for more than 2 days. I have 3 zero daitais left in the aerea, but their total number is 16+14+20=50...and i have no IJN pilots left in the pool to allow replacements. I have some 36 oscars in Burma, but the real point is that he can night bomb the hell out of Rangoon from his big bases in India ...and i have nothing to oppose to this kind of aereial warfare ( already experienced in March 42 this problem.....i had all my air groups depleted in less than 2 weeks...[:(])
I can night bomb Akyab with my betties and nells, but untill this AF won't be filled with planes it will be useless. For the moment i can only play mouse and cat with Akyab....something like one Mass bombing mission per week ( as i've done 3 days ago )..this is prooving to be effective 'cause he's already moving back his air units from there.
My most recent recon ( 1 week ago with some Glenns) over Wake spotted 4 units for a total of 10,000 men...so probably there won't be 2 divisions waiting for me. But AmiralLaurent is right: Nanoumea is a delaying operation and at this stage i still have to secure my first defensive perimeter. BUT Wake is a must and Timor too. So i'll follow AmiralLaurent suggestion and go only for Wake.
So, the 56th division will be packed and sent to Sosarbjia in 2 days, while the invasion forces of SHO 1 and SHO 2 will be united.
The 3th BB division ( mutsu, Kirishima ,Hiei and Kongo) along with some CA and CLs will move to Java and will do some bombardment missions over Koepang to prepare the way.
I'm a bit concerned about the Nanoumea Atoll raid of the KB.... i have some lack of fuel problems in the area and my CVs cannot stay too much at sea due to the growing sys. damage ( the Zuikaku has already been sent to Japan- sys 15 and Kaga is at 10 sys)....and even the loss of some fighter pilots can be a damned high price to pay for a decoy raid.......I will take some more time to think about it:)
Thanks guys! Now a turn has come in my mail^_^

Another week deep into the war. Another week that prooved that the more we get into this carnage, the more the allies grow strong.
It will be so boring to post the combat reports of these 8 days, even if it was 8 days of action, so i will try to concentrate the explanation and try to give an easy overall picture.
BURMA:
As usual the skies over Burma have been flodded with allied bombers and fighters. For 8 days Rangoon,Mandalay,Reaghen,Mouleim,Pagan, Mitikyna have been pounded constantly by HORDES of Liberators,Beauforts,SB-2s,IL4cs, Blenheims,Swordfishes.. etc etc...Adaman island was defenetly closed after a heavy bombing made by what seemed to be a new model of enemy's monster: B-30 Liberator. His fighters crews must be well trained up to now, cause he decided to move 100 Fighters to defend Akyab! Now i'm planning a little retaliation here. 200 Army bombers have been massed at Bankok , along with what remains of my 3 zero daitais. They are resting and as soon as the weather forecast will say that there won't be any rainy day up there, i'll move them to Rangoon and Mouleim and launch a massive strike over Akyab. For the moment a nells daitais is trying to inflict some damage attempting some night attack over there but with little results.
I'd really like to defend my forward bases in Burma, 'cause these massive bombings are depleting my supply stocks in the whole area and he's already began to destroy my HI at Hanoi and in some western Chinese bases. But utill i get some tonies i cannot do nothing more with those useless oscars and nates. The 15th and the 16th Army are resting at Rangoon and planning a general attack over Akyab, but the lack of supplies will surely cause some problems....
CHINA:
It has been a BLOODY week in this theatre. After 2 months of siege FINALLY Chunking fell , and being completely sourronded, 150,000 chinese men surrended to the victorious japanese troops!! What a day!
Ground combat at Chungking
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 351387 troops, 2982 guns, 297 vehicles
Defending force 81807 troops, 54 guns, 0 vehicles
Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 0)
Japanese forces CAPTURE Chungking base !!!
Allied aircraft
no flights
Allied aircraft losses
SB-2c: 1 destroyed
Japanese ground losses:
4468 casualties reported
Guns lost 81
Vehicles lost 3
Allied ground losses:
143421 casualties reported[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][8D][:D]
Guns lost 185
I have to say that i had not been aeasy. These chinese fought with tremendous will and courage! After the last deliberate attack of the last week the supply stocks of the front line army were depleted and all the units were in "red" status. But i could not wait any longer: the general strategic situation is getting worse and i needed this key base badly. So i changed 8 commanders of this Huge army and brought in the Chinese Exp. Corp HQ....this helped a lot my guys and they manage to get rid of the last chinese resistance.
Now the Army has been splitted in 2 Army groups: one is heading towards ...mmm....the base north-west of Chungking( name?), while the other one will move towards Sian....... Yes, eastwards, exactly. No, i'm not crazy. Here the situation is really dangerous. You'll sure remember that he has moved 80 P-40Es and 90 Blenheims IV at KungChang and from there he began a massive bombing campaign against the HI,Oil and res of Yenen and Sian. Well, he understood that my defenses in the area were weak and moved 7 BIG chinese units, well rested and well supplied eastwards, moving along the road that from Kungchin goes to Yenen. Pushed back some of my Mongolian Cav Units that were trying to draw a defensive perimeter in the area and started to threaten directly Yenen![X(]...The loss of Yenen would be a desgrace! At the same time his air units there were operating freely, after haing shoot down what was a Oscar sentai in defence of Sian...and kept on destroying my facilities there....I tried to move some sallies attempting to night bombing his AFs, but managed only to damage some bombers without inflicting any serious damage. This is the main reson why i decided to accellerate the Chunking campaign: now i can move my troops there and finally write down the decisive word on the chinese campaign.
But i have a good surprise for him. A freshly arrived A6M3 daitai has been moved to Sian and put on CAP. He did not noticed this fact and send a lightly escorted mass of Blenheims in the usual routine bombing mission over Sian[;)] :
Day Air attack on Sian , at 47,29
Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 18
Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 49
P-40E Warhawk x 8
Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 3 damaged
Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 42 destroyed, 3 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 4 destroyed
Japanese ground losses:
13 casualties reported
Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 1
a total of 18 enemy planes were shot down ![8D]...ok, i know, nothing that can stop him, but i like to idea that know he feel less confortable there!
DEI:
As you all know here is one of my weakest spot in my defensive perimeter. i've already scheldued the invasion of Timor for the end of July, but he's acellerating the bombing campaign and i must do something to slow him down.
He moved in Timor some fighters and some more Hudson bombers. From there he's bombing Ambonia and Kendari. I had to move there a lightly experienced Zero daitai ( 62 exp) . This move seems to have made him more cautious( he doesn't know that my zeros are not the crack pilots) and he began to night bombing again, trying to avoid a direct engagement with the dreaded zeros.
2 divisions ( the 2nd and the 56th) are alread moving towards Sosarbjia along with a BB division ( 4 BBs,4CAs and 10 DDs). I'm thinking of a naval bombardment at Timor....we'll see, but at the moment my main goal is to shift some Air/naval assets in the area, cause i know that his offensive operation has not begun yet....and this would be the best place for a quick ans safe advance.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC:
Nothing new to report in the Area around Rabaul. PM ,Gili Gili, Buna , Lae and Lunga are daily bombed by 280 b-17s. I'm trying to pull out some precious units( naval base forces and some exp.garrison units), but the heavy enemy activity makes this goal really difficult.
There has been some air combats over thursday island...he's trying to build this base up and he keeps sending Convoys there with supplies and base forces.....
Some A2A combats over Lunga, but his fortresses prooved to be more than a match for my Rufes[:(]
Munda, Shorland and Buin are building up...this will be my defensive triangle in the area, covering Lunga and Tulagi.
CENTRAL PACIFIC:
The operations SHO 1 and SHO 2 started as scheldued on the 17th of June. 3 divisions,2 Brigades, the S.S. Det. and some more 5 SNLF units, along with 4 eng regiments, 4 Tank Rgts and 7 Arty units are moving towards Wake, with the rest of the Combined Fleet.
As you remember, Yamamoto decided to change the original Plan, incorporating the SHO 1 op in the SHO 2 and left only a decoy force to move towards Nanoumea atoll.
Quite confident about Wake invasion, but this operation depleted all the reserves at Truk ( 100 Supplies and 0 fuel[:(][X(][:-])!!!! When and If this operation will be finished with the conquest of Wake i'll move this Conbined army towards Sosarbjia, to be ready for Timor. With Wake in my hands my southern perimeter should be safe enough to let me concentrate on Timor.
At the same time a division ( 21st) arrived at Palau. Its objective is to cover the flank of Ambonia untill Timor will be taken.
.........But, the Good News is that.......................................................
I GOT far beyond 4-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
26500 to 6200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![8D][:D]
...now he has to do something more than bomb the heck out of my bases!
It will be so boring to post the combat reports of these 8 days, even if it was 8 days of action, so i will try to concentrate the explanation and try to give an easy overall picture.

Blenheim IV x 49
P-40E Warhawk x 8

The main threat!
Akyab is now full of bombers and fighters! 130 fighters and 60 bombers ( B-25s and probably some B-24)....thunderstorms are previewd over Burma for tomorrow...so my retaliation has to wait...but every day that damned base grows up and i only have 50 zeros for this operation....but cannot do less...or i will be lost!
a Para Raid today conquered another Chinese base! He moved back his air groups from KungChang to India after the losses of yestraday against my zeros! Well done! Now the north of China will be conquered and my industries at Yenen and Sian can be repaired!

RE: The main threat!
Lashio gained level 5 AF...now he can really hurt my chinese factories....
after two more rainy days i decided to attempt the rataliation over Akyab, which is being filled with men in these days....35000 spotted and 80 fighters + 80 bombers....
I placed 390 planes at Rangoon...a risky gamble. I know some of them will be damaged by his daily night bombing....i hope i can get a sunny day...if not...i'm going to lose a LOT of planes:(
SHO 1 and 2 are on their way....nothing has been spotted till now.
let's see if i can hurt him...

unlucky
I'm not lucky, not at all. All i was asking was a sunny day, as forecast predicted...and what i've got was a fantastic clear night, where 30 allied bombers destroyed 17 planes on the ground and damaged several others (25) and a f......ng rainy morining[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]
Result: i had to postpone the retaliation and moved back all my planes, leaving at Rangoon 25 damaged planes that will be creamed by what i bet will be a massive Air bombing.....[:(][:(][:(]

RE: unlucky
two more days in June (22 and 23rd).
Nothing new to report. After the aborting of the retaliation over akyab due to bad weather conditions, the Empire has again turned on the defence in Burma. The allies are massing an enormous Air power in this theatre and now have plenty of big bases from where to launch massive strikes.
Akyab is now too much fortified i guess. 40,000 men and 15 units...
My air units are refitting at Bankok, ready to begin the 4rd air battle for Rangoon. This time i'm sure i'm gonna face a defeat.
The question is: what to do? throw everything i have and fight now that allied planes are still a match or wait and preserve my pilots knowing that in few months a single air strike will cost me a lot ?.......that is the question.
in the meantime a Bombarment TF is moving towards Timor, trying to close for few days his airfields there...i hope i can get through his air cover...
The SHO1-2 operation is going smoothly, but my decoy TF towards nanoumea atoll hasn't been spotted yet...and that's a problem.

Quiet 24-26 June 42
The 7th month of war is passing by. The feeling i'm having in these days is that Japan has already reached his zenith few months ago and from now on it's just a matter of time.....
Akyab cannot be destroyed anymore. 15 units for 50,000 men are guarding those beaches and something like 80 bombers and 160 fighters are positioned in the 5 Airfields around that little village.
Every day mitchells strike Rangoon and his AFs, with a strong p-40 escort. No way i can do anything to defend Rangoon.
Yunan has been hit hard and the next obj. will be Hanoi and its industries....but i have only oscars to defend them[:@]
At Timor the 3rd BB division managed to close te AF at Koepang.

PM, Lae and Lunga are bombed daily by hordes of 4E bombers. Thousands of deads between the japs.
SHO 1-2 are proceeding smoothly, but the decoy Tf for Nanoumea has not been spotted yet...very very strange.
There have been some A2A battles in the last week over Merauke in New Guinea. 16 sallies have been shot down along with 2 zeros, while the allies lost 12 fighters .
Nothing more to report.

Allied sub activity is encreasing a lot all over the different theatres. Placing mines and scouting my bases, his subs are prooving to be more than a match for my ASW fleet.
My Wake Invasion fleet ( Op. SHO2 ) has been spotted, while the decoy TF for nanoumea atoll has not. That's quite a problem 'cause i hoped in a surprise attack. Now i had to order to the decoy TF to go back to Truk, while my main fleet is massing 4 hexes north of Kwalajein.I espect a STIFF air resistance there...it's going to be a tough match! As soon as i get closer enough i'll order my BBs to move and bomb the hell out of Wake.
