The Germans took Eben Emael, which wasn't in the middle of a city; and they barely managed to hang on to it until relieved.
It's gamey...

Well yep but i did not land in empty bases and i will not do that i send those just to see what is present at the base... [:D] and he knew exactly that those bases would be empty as they are on the beggining[:D] cheez its my 1000 post or somethig[&o]
BTW i got a Teleporting unit i got a Teleporting Unit[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] it will be fun if it will teleport into let's say Palambang or maybe Tokyo[:D]
Can you realise that YOU are the Gamey guy in this thread?[;)][:)]. Look, he attacked empty bases - what is wrong with that?
And you sent "sub recon" just to see actual enemy strength in certain base????
"SS Salomon unloads troops in xy base"... than these men "were attacked by Sasebo 1SNLF, 48th division, 2th art unit, 34567678th Base force".... God, these 30 men are really Supermen and they all attacked with alll Japanese units in this base.....
Oh, he knew that some bases will be empty, but you also knew how many divisions Japan have at the start of the game?.....

Yes, they did, but this wasn't a standard operation. The Germans weren't just your average slack-jawed yokels showed into a glider and crashed onto the roof of the place. You can't even compare them to "run of the mill" Fallschirmjäger. This was a meticulously planned special forces operation, not dropping companies of paras hither and yon behind enemy lines.
You drop a company of Japanese paratroopers into Diamond Harbour or Calcutta or Madras, and you know what should happen? NOTHING!!! They should simply disappear without a trace. A hundred guys with rifles can't conquer a city.

Ah, but if it was a dozen men with type-2 phasers then that would be another story...

If this is so effective in the game, why did the Allies or even the Axis not do it on a regular basis IRL during the war? Why use air photo recon? Why not just send a few transport planes in to paradrop a suicide platoon of men equipped with radios? Why not paradrop a platoon in Chungking at night to determine which units are present there? While they're being shot and captured at least one of them could radio off a last broadcast saying "hey, we're getting shot and captured by Chinese Division X". I would suggest a couple problems with submarine recon as well.
How many soldiers would willingly volunteer to get slaughtered to determine force strength at an enemy base? One common tactic of war propaganda is to paint one's enemies as inhuman monsters capable of the most attrocious acts. This breeds hatred but it also breeds a certain amount fear of the enemy. (Granted we humans like to kill what we fear but we also typically don't deliberately place ourselves in hopeless situations against those or that which we fear.)
One problem with many war games is that they assume troops are programable robots, that the majority of soldiers and armies will obey almost every order and/or fight to the death on almost any occasion, that the home press won't ridicule the officer who sends some mother's son on such a mission, that compassion for one's troops and subordinate officers does not exist among superior officers responsible for such missions.
Secondly how IRL do a few squads of men determine that Division W, Brigade X, Artillery Battery Y and Base Force Z are at a base AND their relative overall assault strengths? At best IRL a platoon of men might get to see the unit insignia and assalt strength of one company or battalion from one division of those troops at the base but not the whole force, including independent support units such as Artillery, Engineers and such. I might take you up on that offer. But I have no idea how to use ACTS and not a lot of time at the moment. Maybe in a month or two though [:)]
