Actually, when I visit the WITP forum, I glance through the 'latest thread' titles to see what's currently being discussed, and virtually never go beyond there unless I'm searching for an issue I've got problems with. Dunno how, but this thread was in that list of recently active threads when I came by - ie according to my view it was a current discussion... now how that happened I have no idea, must've been some sort of glitch, I was rather surprised to discover I'd apparently resurrected an old thread.

However, as I'm now on something like 70 posts since 2003 and you're on over 24000 since 2005 I'd guess I won't worry too much about that [:-] character....Happy New Year [:D]

I didn't catch this thread the first time around.

It was actually interesting reading, for me. [:)]

You should really think about what you say and how you say it. Your footer shows you as the WitP-AE Naval Team Lead and Deputy Project Manager but the way you respond to people is really offensive. It make it difficult to post in the AE discussion threads when you write/respond as you do.

You are representing your design team now also. You can't afford to put personalities B4 principles in your position - regardless of your personal opinions...

1Eyed ... I must say that I agree with you .. "in detail" as Sid likes to say.

But I must admit I have a conflict.

One of my cardinal rules is "do not criticise team members in public".

But at the same time, I must remain true to my duties as a forum MOD to enforce the rules ... issues not people ... no personal attacks.

Now technically, I suppose calling a "thread" stupid .. is not a personal attack .. since a "thread" is not a person. But ... clearly there were and are persons who thought and think that this thread has value. Hence calling the thread stupid could be construed to be calling such supporters of the thread stupid. I"m not real big on "rules lawyers" or "test the edge" types ... so if the MOD thinks you are being offensive .. then you are being offensive.

But I also think the AE Team must answer to a higher standard. I learned this when I became a mod. Before that I loved to wail on the design flaws in the game - and I got Erik after me a time or so (and Frag before that). Now - if I can't think up something neutral to say .. I might just say nothing. The AE team needs to understand this.

We have seen improvement in Termies posts in the last couple of months ... and I have received PM and email from forum members commenting on this. The current "infraction" would probably not receive much notice if it came from a non-AE Team member ... but given that it did ... it is an issue and I will remind the AE Team of their responsibily to be "more civil" than the next guy.

Hi JWikerson,

I wasn't trying to cause Termie any pain - I just wanted to point out to him that readers of these posts could take what's being typed many different ways... I just hate seeing oil poured on the flames so-to-speak... I read the posts that went back and forth between Castor and Termie in this thread and I took offense at what looks 2 me like baiting from someone on the AE team - but that's my interpretation.

I've also read a lot of Castor's posts. I have exclusively played the side of Japan in the PBEM games I've been involved in; the discussion on why allied fighters tend to get the Bounce is of interest to me.

I really like this game and the community of WiTP. There will always be some friction between a few posters but when you are in a leadership role you have to be a little careful about what you post. That's all I was trying to point out. I've read many of Termie's posts on a varity of subjects also. I find him to have a quick mind and I am sure he is an asset to your team.

I look forward to AE and I've really enjoyed reading and participating in the discussions in the AE section. Your team tends to give thoughtful answers and it is my hope that some of the ideas/questions posted by members of WiTP have had an impact in your final product when it come out sometime around June.
TTFN,

Mike

Ditto as per 1-Eyed Jacks... whilst regarding Terminus' comment as inappropriate (a game 'wrinkle' seems a perfectly valid item to discuss, regardless of the thread's age) I didn't get annoyed to any great extent about it.

Whilst I deplore his choice of words..., I think Terminus' response was meant more on the order of "Who dredged this old hat out of the closet. Haven't we beaten this horse enough?" I don't really read any meanness of spirit into it...

[:)] Also , take into consideration that the subject of this thread is one which in the past has lead to conflict and bad feelings. I have to believe that Terminus was expressing his frustration with "loaded threads" , that is ones almost certain to lead to nastiness if it goes on long enough. Threads like "best fighter in ww2", . I feel Terminus was more upset with "people playing with fire" , than with people or persons in general. [:)]

well, I don´t want to start another fight, but I´m used to such statements from him, no matter what the thread´s about or what the subject is (I admit the subject chosen wasn´t a good idea of mine). 25.000 posts....

and I´m not the one who already has got banned from the forum for a couple of months...[8|]

To which I can only say "yet". You haven't been banned yet. Anyone of us could be banned tomorrow for saying something stupid today. I certainly suspect that I've been close. Yet really Castor , you should ask yourself the question , which is an attack? A general question of "Who let the cat in?" or Reference to 25,000 posts or "some one who was banned "? The first comment was a general statement. The next two were specific. I'm not very much for reading the Bible (or religion for that matter) but I seem to remeber something about "casting the first stone". I think that's applicable here. Terminus has apparently taken a "leave of absence" to consider this incident. Now might be a real good time for us all to take some time and think about our own posts. Peace. [:)]

yes, peace. Though I was always only ANSWERING... not beginning with such comments... and yes, general statements and the last two were specific - but also FACTs...

so if I´m in danger of being banned because I´m saying that someone made 25.000 posts (of what quality doesn´t matter) or because I´m saying he was banned (for what reason ever) I would really wonder then...[8|]

[:(] They were not meant as attacks. Veiled or otherwise. If so taken , then please accept my apologies. They were meant as examples of innocous comments which can be taken out of context. What I was offering is that if general statements can be taken as personal attacks, then specific statements darned well should be. As I said , we all could be banned because we "offend someone". The moderator has held Terminus to a higher standard due to his position. Shouldn't we all hold ourselves to a higher standard just because it's the right thing to do?

[:(] I asked if we shouldn't take a pause to consider what has transpired on this thread. I repeat myself. Let's stop flogging the subject and ask ourselves if we have contributed to a misunderstanding. I apparently have, by not being clearer in my earlier post to Castor. As I said before , I give you my apology.

As far as personal or other "attacks" go, all it apparently requires for a statement , or comment to be so branded , is to say that one is offended. Let's take that moment and ask ourselves two questions. 1) Did that poster that offended me mean to offend me? and 2) Have I myself given someone cause to be offended? [:(]

Actually I don't think there are any more useful questions/answers to get out of this thread - that has pretty much been a yelling match from the beginning. Oh, and for the record, Terminus was banned for one week - I don't really know the details of why - because it was for a incident that happened on the General Discussion Forum and had nothing to do with the WITP forums.
