Once I get settled into my new place in Argassi (they actually have internet in this town!) next month I'm tempted to sign up. I need to work on my PC skills anyway. I also want to do a CHS scenario which starts just after the Allied Guadalcanal landings (post Savo). Reason for this is I hope the Japanese AI can handle a simple defensive game vs an Allied opponent.

Should all of this wait (research excluded) for the release of AE though?

As you are hopefully aware, the reason that CHS was not updated is that I don't have time to do so. If there is someone who wants to take the files I have, complete the work, and release them, then I am more than happy to help out.

Comparing the CHS contributor list to the list of AE team members could be educational.

CHS version 3 is effectively AE isn't it? The bulk of the contributors have gone to Henderson Field Designs and used CHS 2d as a basis for further development with greater access to code and creative control (or do I have that wrong?).

To my knowledge, there's no connection between the AE and CHS. The AE draws from the extensive research, design, and art talent across the forum, invariably including a number of ex-CHS contributors.

The AE starts with a blank canvas. By comparison, CHS is paint-by-numbers.

That's really good to know. Thanks for clearing up my confusion so quickly. [:)]
